Gavin Reid started his football career two years ago with the Vincent Massey Vikings from Brandon, Manitoba. In just his second year of football, Gavin was asked to join Team Manitoba U18 for the Canada Cup last July.

Some universities have approached Gavin during the Canada Cup. It was mostly just informal talk, with Gavin being 15 and unsure of what he would like to take in post-secondary, programs just scratched the surface.

“What I like about playing o line is that I can hit the d line and line backers and get some aggression out,” said Gavin.

The young standout from Brandon has molded his playing style after his two coaches: Rob Pink (School) and Steven Fedus (Provincial). Gavin modeled his game after these two coaches because they have taught him how to play, and Gavin never really watched football before he started playing.

Once he’s graduated from Vincent Massey, Gavin is hoping to do something in the engineering field, but he’s unsure of what type. Gavin would also like to pay football as long as he can, he added, “I find it interesting on what they want to talk about and I enjoy their feedback to get better at the game.”

At this moment, Gavin’s focus is on high school and as the year goes on he might have a better idea of where his top 3 schools of choice are.

If Gavin were to make it to the next level of football he thinks he would be able to adapt through the experiences of playing Provincial football and rugby.

To keep increasing his production on the field, Gavin will be working on his strength and speed this offseason.

The coaches at Gavin’s high school have made a big impact on him and his game. “My coaches from my high school (Vincent Massey high school Brandon) have shown me almost all I know about football and have helped me work on my areas where I need work on, particularly my o line coach Pink being a great influence and mentor,” mentioned Gavin.

Football to Gavin is exciting and intense, and then you get the brotherhood of your teammates.

The most memorable moment on the gridiron for Gavin was going undefeated in the regular season at his high school.

Even though Gavin has only strapped on the pads for two seasons he has learnt through football that it’s not over until it’s over, or one step at a time.
