OMFL: Storm win in JV, lose overtime heartbreaker in Varsity

The Niagara Storm junior varsity team sprung into playoff action with a big victory over a talented Rexdale team.Β Β The varsity squad went into 4 overtime periods before losing a heart breaker, ending their season.

Junior Varsity Storm 46- Rexdale 14

Storm Highlights:

Defence played awesome limiting a fired up Rexdale offence. Special teams played well recovering 3 fumbles on kickoff team. The O-line took over the game in the second half and wore down the Rexdale defence.

Outstanding Players:

Mitchell Sheehan and Kael Riley had an outstanding day running the ball. Owen Austin, Austin Whetton and Kurt Katool made some outstanding plays catching the ball. Jake Richardson recovered 3 fumbles and the entire defence play awesome!

Turning Point:

After a scary beginning to the second half when we turned the ball over on offense (twice) and our d-fence bailed us out. We were able to re establish our run game and swing the game back in our favour.

Coaches Comments:

“Wow! I have to give Rexdale a lot of credit with how well they played, they have a good bunch of talented kids that played really hard! Way to go Rexdale! For us it was a learning experience and I thought we bounced back from a really bad start in the second half to take control of the game. I’m proud of our group!”

Storm Record: 8-1

Scoring Details:

#30 – Jesse Willick for 1 TD, and kicked a Field Goal
#80 – Trey Gervais for 1 TD
#88 – Jonathan Neudorf for 1 TD
Defence for a Safety

Outstanding Players:

#30 Jesse Willick
#12 Kevin Beardwood
#64 Cody Speller
#54 Lucas Fryer

Turning Point:

The turning point of this game was when Rexdale hit the field with more desire than the Storm. We are a better team but they came ready to play. We did not.

Coaches Comments:

“With this season over, I am going to miss the field and the guys for the next 8 months. This season was disappointing from a coaching standpoint because of the lack of dedication by some players. When we fell short on Saturday I felt the disappointment of those players that made practice and showed emotion during the entire season. The Storm will begin recruiting in September and plan to visit every school in the Niagara Peninsula to find the best players, not only based on talent but also heart and dedication to form cohesiveness and a winning Niagara Storm Varsity 2013 season.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
