Sandy Bay T-Wolves #55 Raddick Maguire scores three TDs in Third Quarter
Week 3 of northern Saskatchewan football is in the books with one team, the defending champion Cumberland House Islanders remaining unbeaten.
On Tuesday, September 18 the Beauval Voyageurs won their first game of the season by a score of 59-12 over La Loche.Β Β The Voyageurs,Β Hilliard Roy scored four touchdowns and Kolby Bouvier scored three. La Locheβs Nolan Fontaine and Daylen Herman each scored a touchdown for the Lakers.
On Thursday, September 20 a double header of football had Sandy Bay in Pinehouse and Cumberland House in Creighton. Each game was a nail biter as each team had the potential of being first place at the end of the day. In Pinehouse, the league scoring leader, Seth Sanderson had four touchdowns for the hometown Lakers. However, in the third quarter Sandy Bayβs Raddick Maguire scored three touchdowns in five minutes to put theΒ T-Wolves ahead for good. Cory Spencer also had three touchdowns for the T-Wolves who hung on to a 38-32 victory for Sandy Bay over Pinehouse.
In a Creighton, a defensive affair saw the visiting Cumberland House Islanders defeat the Kodiaks by a score of 16-12. Scoring for the Islanders was Zaine Fiddler with two touchdowns and Dwayne McKenzie with two kicking converts. Evan Madaresh scored a touchdown for Creighton and kicker Blake Alexander scored on a field goal, two point convert and a rouge. Cumberland House is the last remaining team to be unbeaten with a record of 3-0.
On Friday, September 21, in 9-aside action,Β the Nipawin Bears played the La Ronge Churchill Chargers. This game was also a defensive hard hitting game with the Bears coming out on top by a score of 14-13.
Looking ahead to week four of northern football action, on Tuesday, September 25 Cumberland House is playing La Loche in Prince Albert at the Max Clunie Field. On Thursday, September 27 a double header will see Beauval at Sandy Bay while Pinehouse travels to Creighton. On Friday, SeptemberΒ 28 the La Ronge Churchill Chargers willΒ host Humboldt.
