With one of the longest and harshest winters in recent memory finally appearing in the rear view mirror, thoughts are slowly turning towards cookouts, open fields and warmer weather. Much like mother nature coming out of her winter long slumber, hundreds of football players throughout the province are leaving behind the gyms, weights and indoor facilities ready to finally get outside and “trade paint” in what should be a great summer season for OVFL and OFC players alike. This year however many of the elite players will get an early jump on both the CFL and the amateur summer leagues as CanadaFootballChat.com is proud to present the inaugural ONTARIO PROSPECT CHALLENGE. On the first weekend of May football fans in Guelph will get a chance to watch some of the best prospects in the province do battle in what will feature some great athletes, many destined to become household names over the next decade.

Over the next 10 days we’ll get a chance to preview the games, meet the coaches and talk to some of the “players to watch”. One young man who is quietly creating a bit of a buzz is Team West Junior Varsity pivot Alex Petty and we had a chance to catch up with Alex and play a little Q & A and learn a little more about him and his thoughts on this year’s ONTARIO PROSPECT CHALLENGE.

CFC: Alex, thanks for taking the time to talk with us today, right off the bat, why don’t you tell us a little about your football experience to date and who you play for.

ALEX PETTY: No problem, I have been playing football for eleven years, quarterback for eight. Currently I play my summer football with the Burlington Stampeders of the OFC and in the fall with Bishop Tonnos Secondary in Ancaster.

CFC: In regards to the ONTARIO PROSPECT CHALLENGE what led to you trying out and what were your thoughts then compared to now.

ALEX PETTY: It was actually Coach Larry(Jusdanis) who suggested I go out, It was a little overwhelming at first, as I saw it as a huge challenge and really didn’t know what to expect.

CFC: And once you were there?

ALEX PETTY: The same, but not so overwhelming once we started competing.

CFC: If you were a scout how would you describe your style of Quarterbacking, a scrambler, drop back passer, etc?

ALEX PETTY: Definitely a roll-out, mobile QB.

CFC:  Let’s talk about your hopes for the game and in football in general.

ALEX PETTY: For the game I want to learn, improve and hopefully get scouted….

CFC: For University?

ALEX PETTY: For sure, I am hoping to study business/commerce in university and my education is my priority. I would like to take football as far as possible, but my thinking is school first, football second so if I can get my degree and play University football that would definitely be a big goal of mine.

CFC: Thanks a lot Alex for your time!

ALEX PETTY: Thank-you, that was my first interview…

CFC: Remember us when you are famous!
