The first time Jonathan Wieder played the sport was when he was seven-years-old and playing as a guard for the atom Durham Dolphins in the Ontario Minor Football League (OMFL), who made the championship that year.
In his second year, he was asked by the coach to move to centre and defensive tackle.
After his shift to the peewee Dolphins he became a full time centre, and have not changed position since.
This past spring Jonathan tried out for the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) underclassmen and made the team as the starting centre.
The centre was excited about this as it was the first team he has played on that was not the Dolphins and he would be playing on a CFL field.
Next fall, Jonathan will be attending St. Maryβs High School and will be joining the Monarchβs football team.
In the offseason he works out, snaps footballs in his garage into a net to help with accuracy and practices blocking with his brother.
βMy OPC goals are to learn from new people and get ranked when I start playing high school football,β said Jonathan.
The Dolphinβs football idol is Drew Brees become he overcame challenges and rejection to become the legend he is today. He also taught Jonathan that family comes before anything else in life, which Brees demonstrated by bringing his newborn out after he won his first Super Bowl.
βI love football because I meet people and the position I play is just smash mouth football, all I do is hit,β commented the centre.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
