Austin Reid was first drawn to the sport when watching Friday Night Lights at a local high school when he lived in Michigan as a young child.

After his family’s move to Bedford, Nova Scotia he played with the Bedford Saints and Football Nova Scotia for three years, coming first in the province during his junior atom year.

At the age of nine he moved back to Ontario and has now been with the Halton Cowboys in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) for the past six years.

The last four years have been as a captain and starting quarterback.

Austin has also been his high school’s, the Abbey Park Eagles, quarterback since freshman year.

Moreover, in 2014, the Eagles standout was asked to coach the Cowboys’ fall atom team.

The 2015 Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) brought Austin to the big game for Halton-Peel as the starting quarterback.

“Football is a huge part of my life so I always want to push myself to get better, throw better, run faster [and] be smarter,” said Austin. “OPC is a huge part of that development. Playing with and against the best of the best.”

“I am working to make it to the big OPC game again!”

Between club and high school football, the Eagles standouts’ offseason is very small, but during the winter months he works out with the Sport Specific Training Quarterback and Speed programs to continue to improve his skills and speed.

He also throws the ball daily on either the field or in his backyard where his dad built a passing net that he uses year round.

Weight training and nutrition have been a major focus of his this year, as he works out four days a week in order to help him improve.

The quarterback loves the sport because throughout all the moves it has remained a constant in his life.

“The football family I have found in my teammates and coaches wherever I have played has allowed me to make friendships that will last me forever while I continue to push myself to be my best both on and off the field,” added Austin.

The Eagles standout’s role model is Larry Jusdanis, owner of SST. He played throughout university, was invited to the NFL Combine and was the first Canadian to be a starting quarterback in the CFL.

“More importantly he has been able to take his passion for football and being a quarterback and has turned it into a successful business and career to inspire and teach new young Canadian quarterbacks to follow their dreams,” commented the Eagles standout.

“I hope to be able to do the same one day.”
