Riley Ferrell started playing football when he turned seven during the summer of 2012.

β€œI was hooked from the moment I put on my pads and helmet, and I have looked forward to playing every fall since then,” said Riley.

He will be joining the peewee Jr. Tiger-Cats in the Hamilton Football Association (HFA) this upcoming season.

β€œFor the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) I want to have fun and to continue to get better and learn from my coaches,” commented Riley.

β€œIt’s also cool getting the opportunity to meet and play with the players from other cities that I have played against,” added the Ticat.

During the offseason Riley keeps busy by playing other sports and doing some gym training.

This offseason, he played house league basketball and is about to start indoor winter gym training with his coaches for the upcoming fall season.

The training is two nights a week from January to May, and works on endurance, speed, agility and overall conditioning.

In the spring, Riley plans to play flag football to work on his footwork, speed and basic skills, as well as play house league soccer just for fun.

Moreover, the Ticat’s favourite player is Ben Roethlisberger from the Pittsburgh Steelers because he is a great player who has had a very successful career.

β€œMore than that because he is a great team leader, knows the game inside and out and plays smart,” explained Riley. β€œHe is a hard worker and is committed to his teams success, this is the type of player I want to be.”

β€œI love to play football because it is fun and I get to make a lot of friends,” commented the Ticat.

Riley also loves that it helps him stay focused on school, as his coaches are always telling them how important school is and that if they don not keep their grades up there will be consequences.

β€œFootball is also helping me develop good leadership skills,” added the Ticat. β€œBut most of all it’s just fun!”
