Zachary Tadashore started playing the sport at the age of eight in the Sault Minor Football Association (SMFA).

During his time in the SMFA, the defensive tackle was able to earn three championships and received the Defensive Player of the Year award each season.

In Zachary’s final year with the SMFA he received the prestigious Norm Casola Award for the league. The award is given to the player with the most dedication and who displays leadership skills on and off the field.

Last year he played for the junior varsity Sault Ste Marie Sabercats, where he gained experience and confidence. He is looking forward to the 2016 season.

Currently, at the age of 15, Zachary plays for his high school’s team, the St. Mary’s Knights. He led the team as Defensive Captain and was nominated for Defensive Player of the Year across all high schools in the Sault Ste Marie.

His goals for the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) are to develop new skills and abilities, and learn from coaches and players to become a stringer player.

β€œAlso to build confidence in myself to allow me to earn the success I feel I can achieve,” said Zachary. β€œAlso to gain exposure for myself to assist in my football future.”

During the offseason, he works out and plays in the Sault Major Hockey Association.

The Knights standout also helps coach young players through SMFA, which he does to help lead young players the way his idol did for him.

Ben Bolduc, who was his coach in the SMFA and played with the Ottawa GeeGees, is just one of his many role models.

β€œHe inspired me and helped me gain the confidence I needed to be successful to date,” commented the Knights standout. β€œHe has been instrumental by ensuring I grew personally and athletically in all my years of playing football.”

Bolduc has made him realize that you can achieve your goals if you work hard and set your mind to it.

Moreover, when it comes to university Zachary is starting visits next year and is hoping to obtain a scholarship to assist with his education and be able to play football while doing so.

β€œI have a passion for football that makes me feel confident and in control,” explained the Knights standout. β€œI love the individual commitment in conjunction with team atmosphere and the relationships built throughout the season that last long after.”
