Divon Romeo has been playing football since the sixth grade, and before that he played hockey.

ā€œI transferred over to football because I saw how much contact was in the sport and it gave me a rush of adrenaline when I see guys running in or making big catches for touchdowns and I knew the sport was right for me,ā€ said Divon.

More recently, the receiver plays for his high school, the Notre Dame Knights.

ā€œMy goals for the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) are to put my name out there for coaches to see and for other players to talk about,ā€ commented the Knight, who believes he has what it takes to play at the next level in the States.

Divon, a 2017 graduate, is also working hard to achieve his goal of making the #CFC100 because it proves that he is one of the best when it comes to his position.

During the offseason he trains with his friends in trying to improve explosiveness and his awareness, which allow him to see open parts of the field and get there faster to make plays.

The receiver also plays basketball in the offseason to improve his speed, quickness, vertical and cardio to stay in shape.

Moreover, Divonā€™s role models in football are Odell Beckham Jr. and his brother.

ā€œI look up to Odell because his play style is amazing,ā€ commented Divon. ā€œWith his large hands and catching ability it makes him almost unstoppable and to guard on the field and he is also almost my height.ā€

He looks up to his brother because he pushes him to continue on his journey to success and never puts him down.

ā€œHe finds the bright side of things and always tells me the truth no matter how much it will hurt,ā€ added Divon.

The Knight thinks he has grown so much since he has started playing football and has such a different mindset on the way he plays now, as well as how he sees himself in the future.

ā€œI have gained so much confidence when trying out for teams, I am not intimidated by the size of guys now since I have started at the varsity level at my position in Grade 10,ā€ commented Divon.

The receiver loves football because it takes his mind away from things that are happening in his personal life and he feels that it makes him a better person both on and off the field.

ā€œWithout football, I donā€™t think I would be in school or be the person I am today.ā€

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
