Cole Rogers fell instantly in love with the sport five years ago, when he started with the local Sarnia Minor Athletic Association (SMAA) house league when he was nine.
He then tried out for the Sarnia Sturgeons Ontario Football Conference (OFC) travel team in the spring. He has continued to play in both leagues ever since.
Moreover, Cole just started high school and is the starting middle linebacker for the St. Patrick’s Fighting Irish.
During the offseason, the Fighting Irish plays hockey, basketball, and participates in track and field.
“I like to stay active and busy,” says Cole. “I also play pick up football with my friends near my house.”
Cole’s goals for the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) are to be trained and improve on his skills.
“I want great coaches to help me become the best player possible and be ranked in the top 100,” added the middle linebacker. “Then I want to make the team and win the championship for Ontario West.”
Ray Lewis is his role model because he was a great player and played hard from whistle to whistle.
“I would love to be able to play like him one day,” commented Cole.
There are several things the Fighting Irish loves about football, such as the adrenaline, the rush after a big tackle and the family feeling of a team.
“You win together, but you lose together too,” explained Cole. “A good team makes you a better player.”
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
