Ontario Prospect Challenge Profile: Patriot DT looking forward to next level

Eighteen-year-old Thomas Zarafonitis started playing football at the age of six.

The defensive tackle played house league with Niagara Minor Football for seven years, then one year with the Niagara Generals in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

Moreoverm he has also spent the past five years playing with the Saint Paul Patriots, his high school’s junior and senior teams.

During his time with the Patriots, he received the Junior Team Defensive MVP award in 2012, the 2013 Senior Team Defensive Rookie of the Year and the 2014 AAA Football All Conference Team as a defensive tackle.

This upcoming fall, Thomas will be joining AUS team Mount Allison Mounties.

In the offseason, the Patriots standout works out on a regular basis, which includes heavy weight training combined with cardio and running agility drills.

He also attends camps to keep his edge.

At this year’s Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC), Thomas is focused on accomplishing one main thing.

“My goal for the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) is to make a huge impact at the defensive tackle position for Coach [Mike] Solanki,” commented the Patriots standout.

In lines of a role model, his is All-Pro defensive tackle Randy White of the Dallas Cowboys.

“He was an undersized player, but as a strong and quick as any man,” explained the defensive tackle. “He was also an over achiever while playing with his ‘doomsday defense.’”

“I enjoy football because it can be very physically and mentally challenging and the wins are very gratifying,” added Thomas.
