Donovan Greene got his start in 2012 as a defensive lineman for the Gatineau Vikings before finding his calling on the offensive line.

Donovan has played all position on the offensive line, with left guard being his specialty.

He continued to play with the Vikings in both the National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) and the Montreal Regional Football League (MRFL) until the summer of this year, when he had the privilege if playing in the Spalding Cup with SĆ©lection Outaouais.

This fall he joined the Ottawa Myers Riders of the NCAFA, where he had an amazing season as a team.

Earlier this month, the left guard was training with the Athletic Academy in Montreal in preparation for the Showcase Academy that was held on Dec. 5.

His plan for 2016 is to return to the Myers Riders, but this time in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

For this year’s Ontario Prospect Challenge, Donovan is aiming high.

ā€œMy goals for the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) are to experience new coaching styles, new plays and meet new players,ā€ said Donovan. ā€œI am hoping OPC can bring me new experiences and bring me to a whole new level that I would not have seen yet.ā€

The 2017 graduate says that being on the #CFC100 list ā€œwould be a great honour.ā€

ā€œBeing placed with the best this sport has to offer is definitely a goal and would demand a solid commitment and hard work to achieve that goal,” added Donovan.

During the offseason, he trains in the gym three to four times a week with a personal trainer to increase speed, strength and power. He also eats healthy and stays active.

Donovanā€™s idol is Max Unger, the starting centre for his favourite team, the Seattle Seahawks. His size is rare for his position and he uses it to his advantage.

ā€œHeā€™s quick, strong and his balance never waivers when he has to make a fast move,ā€ added the Myers Riders standout. ā€œI would love to be able to move and use my size to my advantage the way Max does.ā€

He loves the sport because it is both a mental and physical challenge. Challenges that he looks forward to taking on every time he suits up to play.

ā€œIt is also a sport that allows me to use everything about me to my advantage,ā€ commented Donovan. ā€œIt keeps me moving, it keeps my focus in check and I am proud of every single accomplishment on and off the field.ā€

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
