Ethan Ryan has five years of gridirion experience, starting at the age of eight.
Ethan started in house league football with the Beckwith Irish where he played defensive and offensive line. He was bumped up to the mosquito level due to his size.
In 2013, he moved on to the National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) to play with the mosquito Bell Warriors.
During this time, he won Best Defensive Linesman in 2013 and Team MVP in 2014, as well as the mosquito A Cup playoff defensive MVP versus the Cumberland Panthers.
Ethan currently plays as a defensive end for the peewee Warriors.
Completing his resume, Ethan has also played for the bantam Myers Riders in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) this year.
He played as a captain middle linebacker, a defensive end, an offensive linesman and on kickoff return.
The Rider won the 2015 Defensive Rookie of the Year award and finished first in the province for solo sacks and sack assists with 110 points.
During the offseason, he trains by lifting weights, stays focused and scales his food intake back a lot. He also tries to run and do a lot of push-ups.
Ethan’s goals for the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) are, “to make the Top 100 and to become a better player in the process.”
The middle linebacker’s role models on the field are JJ Watt and Luke Kuechly.
“Luke Kuechly is the best linebacker in the league right now,” said Ethan. “He is a humble guy and doesn’t try to take all the credit for the wins that Carolina picks up.”
Watt is also an inspiration to him because he is the best at his position and is the kind of player Ethan wants to be because he gets his job done consistently and even if he does not make the tackle he is always giving the offensive line a tough time.
Overall, there are a few reasons whty Ethan loves playing the sport.
“I love football because when you’re on the field everything just feels better,” explained the Riders standout. “It feels natural to me and I feel right at home when I’m out there grinding, sweating and working.”
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
