Ontario RB Femi-Cole signs with NCAA’s Minnesota Gophers (VIDEO)

Earlier this morning, CFC #6 Jonathan Femi-Cole officially signed with NCAA FBS team, Minnesota Gophers.

The 5’11, 218 pound running back from Vaughan Ontario chose the Gophers while there on a visit back in July.

The Gophers were the first school that offered the CFC TOP 100 close to a year ago (February 20th).  Femi-Cole has received others from the University of Buffalo Bulls and the University of Nevada Wolfpack.

On twitter, the Gophers officially announced the signing:

Femi-Cole recently completed his high school career with St. Andrew’s College Saints of the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA).

Ultimately, today’s signing is a dream realized fot the Ontario running back.

“Growing up you dream about going D1, growing up in Canada that dream is a lot more far-fetched,” said Femi-Cole.  “But the fact that I am living this dream and I have been given the opportunity to play for a great program and coaching staff is something that I can’t even put into words.”

“What Minnesota has been able to accomplish the past few seasons has proved that they’re a team that can compete with the best. What Coach Kill and that coaching staff have done is amazing. And I am just glad that I can now be a part of it and help contribute to this program’s future success.”

During the signing ceremony earlier today at St. Andrew’s College, Femi-Cole was reflective of his time with the CISAA team yet appreciative of the role the Saints football program has played in getting him to this juncture in his gridiron career.

“I will be forever grateful for the opportunities I have been given here at St. Andrew’s College,” expressed the CFC 100 receiver.  “The chance to grow academically and athletically has truly paved the way for me.”

“Coming to St. Andrew’s has been a life changing experience, an experience that has led me to become what they strive to create: A well-rounded citizen. It truly is a special place.”

As for the Saints, the team couldn’t be more happier that one of their own has realized their NCAA dream and continue on a long-standing tradition of Saints players who have been successful south of the border. Head Coach Len Gurr has watched Femi-Cole develop over the past three seasons and knew he had the potential to become an elite player.

“We are tremendously proud and excited for Jonathan,” commented Gurr.  “When he first enrolled at St. Andrew’s three years ago, we knew he had the chance to accomplish great things.”

“To see him here three years later is a thrill for all of us. I have said it time and time again, but Jonathan is arguably the most naturally talented football player I have coached, and we have had some truly great players come through our program over the years. He follows in a proud line of St. Andrew’s College Saints who have earned D1 scholarships and we look forward to seeing him represent our football program in the Big Ten Conference. Simply put, there is nothing left for him to accomplish at the high school level. He is now ready to compete against the very best on college football’s biggest stage.”

Last week, he was ranked on the CFC 100 for the third consecutive time.
