The Metro Toronto Wildcats lose 35-36 in an overtime heartbreaker against the Markham Raiders.
The Wildcatsβ no. 32 Kadeem Crossman opened the scoring with a 5 yard rushing touchdown. The Raiders were able to tie the game by the end of the first quarter. Both teamβs defenses made great plays in order to keep the game close by a 10-7 margin at halftime.
Defensive standouts included no. 20 Kadeem Thomas, who had an interception in the second quarter and no. 5 Russell Jordan. For the fourth game in a row, Trevelle Wisdom had a great game with 10 tackles.
The second half was filled with big offensive plays by no. 85 Malcolm Carter, no. 16 Angelo Fousteris and no. 7 Trivel Pinto. After a back and forth third quarter which started with the Raiders recovering an onside kick, the fourth quarter began with a touchdown pass to Trivel Pinto to put the Wildcats up 17-14.
Quarterback no. 9 Brett Stein threw for 314 yards and two touchdowns against the Raiders who have the top ranked defense in the OVFL.
With eight minutes left, it looked like the Wildcats would take this game as Kadeem Crossman scored another touchdown to go up 24-14.
However, the Raiders had other ideas.
The Raiders managed to go ahead 27-24, forcing the Wildcats to tie the game with 0 seconds on the clock with a field goal.
In overtime, the Wildcats could not stop the Raiders and ended up losing by a single point.
With the loss, the Wildcats drop to 1-3 and 13th in the standings. With the season half over, the Wildcats are now in a must win situation in order to make the playoffs.
This Saturday, the Wildcats will take on the Newmarket Bucs who are in 19th place and have yet to win a game. The game will be in Newmarket at 4:00PM.
