OVFL GAME PREVIEW: Ravens look to keep winning streak alive

After suffering back-to-back losses at the hands of the Niagara Spears and Cambridge Lions, the varsity Essex Ravens (3-2) are aiming to keep their momentum in full swing this saturday against the winless Etobicoke Eagles (0-6).

The Ravens are currently riding a two game winning streak, first shutting out the Sault St. Marie (SSM) Sabercats and holding on to win against their rivals, the London Jr. Mustangs at home last week.

For the Ravens, the team will look to continue their bruising style of play after rushing an astounding 61 times for 406 yards last week in their win but can also resort to their pass offence if necessary due to the suspect Eagles secondary which has let up over 250 passing yards in half of their games this season.

Look for running back Braeden Braccio to have a big day as usual but keep a lookout for one of the Ravens aerial weapons, 2015 OVFL All-Star Alex Bornais as well.

“Etobicoke has some good athletes, in order to win we can’t fall asleep and must make the plays necessary,” said Bornais.  “We need to keep the momentum on our side and focus on doing the little things.”

Essex Ravens Head Coach Glen Mills said the Ravens have to continue doing the things that have equated to success the past couple of games.

“We need to continue to play physical on both sides of the ball,” said Mills.  “We also need to be more productive passing the football. Etobicoke always has some great athletes we need to limit their big plays and keep them in a 3rd and long situation as much as possible”

The Eagles are winless up to this point.   The team must shore up their defence against the power style of the Ravens if they hope to secure their first win of the OVFL season.

Game time is 7:00pm on July 2nd at University of Windsor Alumni Field.  While it looks to be a challenge, it is a winnable game for the Ravens.
