OVFL (JV) Game one a nail bitter between Cambridge & London

In a see-saw affair, the Cambridge Lions managed to hold off the London Falcons on the opening night of Ontario Varsity Football League action. In front of a packed house at Jacob Hespeler field, the Lions relied on their running game and an opportunistic defense to hold off the Falcons by a slim 2 point margin. Turnovers and penalties slowed the game down drastically in the 2nd half. Regardless, the fourth quarter saw plenty of drama and pressure packed performances.http://www.canadafootballchat.us/news/attachments/668-img_1037-jpg.html

The game opened with a missed 38 yarder by the Lions with 3:54 remaining in the first quarter. Not long afterwards the Falcons missed a field goal just before the end of the quarter which Cambridge’s Tyler Varga returned 53 yards.

The second quarter saw the teams trade touchdowns with London getting on the board first with a touchdown by #23 Adam Sinclair (the TD was set up by a long run by #36 Avery Lawrence). But not to be outdone, the Lions marched down the field and after a long run by Varga, scored on a playaction pass to #87 Mathew Davidson. Half ended 8 to 7 for Cambridge.

The opening of the 2nd half ( and if you weren’t in your seats you missed it ) saw the London Falcons return the kick off all the way for a touchdown by returner #82 Nathaniel Behar. Minutes later at the 10:24 mark, Lions runningback Tyler Varga scored on a 20 yard run.

The ensuing kick off saw the Falcons return the ball to the 40 yard line. Next play: Big cut back run by Sinclair and the very next play saw #89 Alex Frkovic catch a touchdown on a play action pass. London mishandles PAT snap and does not get any points.
