OVFL JV: Wildcats stumped by Mustangs

The Junior Varsity Metro Toronto Wildcats drop to 3-2 after losing a close game to the London Mustangs, final score 20-16.

It was a tough loss for the Wildcats as they drop to fourth place in the Wettges Conference in the Ontario Varsity Football League. They now sit in the final playoff spot with only three games left to play.

Once again the defense was led by Deshawn Stevens and Jesse Amaral. Stevens has an impressive game as he ranked third best in the OVFL for week six. Meanwhile the offense was led by returning running back Jordan Burgher.

This was Burgher’s first game of the season and made quite the debut with 137 total yards and one touchdown.

The London defense was able to successfully stop Toronto quarterback Jack Vernon. Vernon was kept to a season low 108 total yards, but did run for a touchdown of his own. With Vernon well covered, proven receiver Esson Hamilton was kept to a season low 57 yards.

This Saturday the Wildcats will be taking on the Halton Cowboys. The Cowboys are yet to win a game this season, so this could be the opportunity the Wildcats need to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The game will take place at 4:0PM in Halton.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
