OVFL: London, Mississauga, & Brampton victorious in finals

The London Jr. Mustangs, Mississauga Warriors, and Brampton Bulldogs all celebrated OVFL championship victories on Saturday.Β Β The Jr. Mustangs, in their first year in existence (taking over from the Falcons), ran the table and went undefeated.Β Β The Warriors, who won the Junior Varsity championship last season, did the same thing and went undefeated for the season.Β Β The Bantam winners from Brampton avenged an regular season loss in the first round of the playoffs and never looked back, dominating the post-season.

The Mustangs stumbled out of the gates early and trailed 10-0 after the first quarterβ€”the only time London fell behind a team on the scoreboard all season.Β Β A back-and-forth game between the Mustangs and Riders may have saw the turning point when London’s Malcolm Brown returned a missed field goal 125 yards for a touchdown mid-way through the fourth quarter.Β Β Brown was the game’s co-most valuable player, along with Mustang running back Isiah Mills (20 carries, 202 yards, 3 TDs).Β Β Other touchdown scorers included Brandon Ryckman and Nate Behar.

For the Riders Jonathan Cimankinda scored two TDs and Austin Kay scored one. Connor Ayre booted two field goals and QB Nick Gorgichuk was the team’s game MVP.

The Bulldog defense kept the Riders offense under wraps all game.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
