OVFL & OFC JUNIOR VARSITY RECAP (2): Myers Riders continue destruction; Dolphins, Bulldogs & Jr. Mustangs grab 1st wins, Stampeders & Stallions start season with lopsided victories

It was a brisk week of action as both the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and Ontario Football Conference (OFC) had multiple games on the docket.

This past weekend in the OVFL, Kingston Grenadiers, Etobicoke Eagles, Toronto Thunder, West Durham Dolphins, London Jr. Mustangs, Ottawa Myers Riders and Brampton Bulldogs were victorious.

Meanwhile, the Burlington Stampeders were the only OFC team to earn a shutout victory. Ā Additionally, Oakville Titans, Peterborough Wolverines, Brantford Bisons, Huronia Stallions and Twin-Cities Predators won their opening season contests.

ONTARIO VARSITY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (OVFL):

Tyrus Bromley

KINGSTON GRENADIERS 27, METRO TORONTO WILDCATS 7:

On Saturday afternoon at Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute, Tyrus Bromley scored a touchdown and amassed 105 yards on five receptions as the Kingston Grenadiers cruised to a 27-7 win over Metro Toronto Wildcats.

Brock Vale also tallied a major and rushed for 104 yards on 13 carries in the win.

#CFCOPC pivot Ben Maracle completed 12 passes in 22 attempts for 164 yards and a touchdown. Ā Connor Rafferty added two field goals (32 and 16 yards) as well as a PAT for the Grenadiers.

As for the Wildcats, Stephan Headley rushed for 80 yards on five carries. Ā Tristan Kindrachuk was successful on a conversion attempt in the loss.

On defence, Thomas Manttari registered four solo and 10 assisted tackles.

ETOBICOKE EAGLES 34, HAMILTON IRONMEN 7:

At Michael Power/St. Joseph High School on Saturday afternoon, the Etobicoke Eagles remained undefeated as the team dismantled Hamilton Ironmen 34-7.

Ethan Bastarache added a PAT in the loss for the Ironmen. Ā Defensively, Nicholas Ropcean recorded a solo sack as well as a solo and 11 assisted tackles.

Vayi Yomo

TORONTO THUNDER 21, OSHAWA HAWKEYES 14:

On Saturday evening at Oshawa Civic Stadium, Vayi Yomo scored three touchdowns and rushed for 201 yards on 18 carries as the Toronto Thunder got past the hosts Hawkeyes 21-14.

James Parchment was successful on three conversion attempts in the win.

For the Hawkeyes, Tristen Dempers tallied a major and racked up 51 yards on four receptions.Daniel Nyamiaka added two PAT’s in the loss.

Durham Dolphins

WEST DURHAM DOLPHINS 52, YORK REGION LIONS 7:

At Pine Ridge Secondary School on Saturday evening, the West Durham Dolphins crushed York Region Lions 52-7.

Ron Boshoer tallied the lone major for the Lions and rushed for 105 yards on 22 carries. Ā Additionally, George Harper had 106 yards on 18 carries in the game. Nickolas Lumley had a 43 yard reception in the loss.

John-Kurt Andreacchi was successful on the point after attempt.

LONDON JR. MUSTANGS 59, CAMBRIDGE LIONS 14:

On Saturday evening at TD Waterhouse Stadium, Chase Brown scored three touchdowns and rushed for 219 yards on 21 carries as the London Jr. Mustangs started their 2016 campaign on a winning note by crushing visiting Cambridge Lions 59-14.

Ethan Martin tallied two majors and had 115 yards on six receptions for the Jr. Mustangs. Ā Ethan Smith racked up 50 yards on two receptions.

Brian Garrity added an 18 yard field goal and eight PAT’s in the victory.

Swion Lee led the Jr. Mustangs defence with six solo and three assisted tackles.

As for the Lions, Quinn Robertson had a 70 yard touchdown reception. Ā Brayden Harris had the other score and added 44 yards on two receptions in the loss.

#CFCOPC pivot Michael Warner completed nine passes in 19 attempts for 193 yards and two touchdowns. Ā Eric Stranz was successful on both conversion attempts.

Trenton DaCosta reigstered nine solo and two assisted tackles on the Lions defence. Moreover, James Hinsperger recorded a solo sack as well as five solo and three assisted tackles in the game.

Hono Iloki Myers Riders

OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS 53, SSM SABRECATS 16:

At Beckwith Recreation Park on Sunday afternoon, #CFCOPC Hono Iloki tallied three majors (two rushing, one receiving), rushed for 80 yards on five carries and racked up 43 yards on three receptions as the Ottawa Myers Myers thrashed the SSM Sabrecats 53-16.

Hayden Tripp added two majors and sprinted for 129 yards on 14 carries in the win.

Defensively,Ā Stephane Tshishimbi led the way for the Myers Riders as he caught three interceptions as well as registering a solo and two assisted tackles.

Antwan Fair had 60 yards on two receptions for the Sabrecats. Ā Jordan Robertson-Wright completed 14 passes on 27 attempts for 134 yards and a touchdown in the loss.

Geryd Lesage caught an interception, blocked a ball as well as registered five solo and three assisted tackles on the Sabrecats defence.

Retsen Taeshawn Daley

BRAMPTON BULLDOGS 46, ESSEX RAVENS 18:

On Sunday evening at Chinguacousy Park,Ā Al-Ameen Shipeolu caught an interception and converted it into a 56 yard touchdown as the Brampton Bulldogs upended the Essex Ravens 46-18.

Shipeolu also had two batted balls, seven solo and eight assisted tackles in the game.

Retsen-Taeshawn Daley added a major and amassed 94 yards on two receptions. Ā Clark Barnes also scored a 52 yard touchdown reception.

Pivot Shaye Wynter completed six passes in 10 attempts for 184 yards and two touchdowns for the Bulldogs.

Antonio Webb added four PAT’s, caught an interception, as well as recorded seven solo and five assisted tackles. Ā Jacob Nandan had an interception, a forced fumble, five solo and two assisted tackles on defence.

OAKVILLE TITANS 28, SUDBURY GLADIATORS 25:

At James Jerome Sports Complex on Saturday, the visiting Oakville Titans squeezed out a 28-25 victory over hosts Sudbury Gladiatiors.

Brad Patterson scored two touchdowns (74 and 10 yards) for the Gladiators. Ā Additionally, Nathan Rivet snuck into the end zone for a one yard major and Nick Rideout added a 38 yard field goal in the loss.

Keegan Crough

PETERBOROUGH WOLVERINES 17, NORTH HALTON CRIMSON TIDE 10:

On Saturday at Thomas A Stewart, the Peterbrough Wolverines escaped with a 17-10 win over North Halton Crimson Tide,

Both Kyle Cooper and Keegan Crough scored a touchdown. Ā Quinn Clancy was successful on a field goal attempt for the Wolverines.

Brantford Bisons Logo (CFC)

BRANTFORD BISONS 29, HAMILTON TIGER-CATS 22:

A back and forth affair that saw Danny Bosett score his third major of the game from 19 yards out midway through the 4th quarter to propel the JV Bisons to a 29-22 victory.

Bosett also scored on a 37 yard run and returned a kickoff 85 yards for the victors.Ā  Bosett had a productive day rushing the ball with 20 carries for 151 yards.

Myles Maloney ran in from 3 yards out for the other Bisons major and Tucker Almert was good on all four convert attempts and had a rouge on a wide field goal.

For Hamilton, Drake Bodi started things off with a 96 yard punt return major.Ā  Calvin Kelly scored the other Hamilton majors on runs of 7 and 3 yards.Ā  Max Sherwood booted a convert and 34 yard field goal to complete the Hamilton scoring.

HURONIA STALLIONS 52, VAUGHAN REBELS 14:

On Sunday, Huronia Stallions opened their 2016 OFC campaign on a winning note as the team demolished Vaughan Rebels 52-14.

BURLINGTON STAMPEDERS 52, FOREST-CITY THUNDERBIRDS 0:

In their 52-0 shutout of the Forest City Thunderbirds, pivot Connor Irwin Lewis led the JV Stamps with touchdown passes of 12 yards to Brendan Day and 20 yards to Adam Kranz and scampered 88 yards himself for a major as well.

Other Stamp scores were from Josh Munoz (1 yard run), Nathan Langley (8 yard run) and John Nikolovski with runs of 21 and 49 yards.Ā  Nikita Buzynskyy was good on all 7 convert attempts and had a rouge on a wide field goal.

The Stamps defence forced a conceded safety touch to round out their scoring.

Twin Cities Predators

TWIN-CITIES PREDATORS 27, SARNIA STURGEON 7:

On Sunday, the Twin-Cities Predators cruised to a 27-7 victory over Sarnia Sturgeon.
