OVFL & OFC RECAP (JV – WEEK 4): Valente in beast mode, rookie Rideout impresses & Fervius unstoppable

We are almost at the halfway point of both the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and Ontario Football Conference (OFC) Junior Varsity Divisions.

Among the Week 4 OVFL winners include Etobicoke Eagles, York Simcoe Bucs, Cumberland Panthers, Toronto Thunder, Essex Ravens, Brampton Bulldogs and London Jr. Mustangs.

Meanwhile, Brantford Bisons, North Halton Crimson Tide, Guelph Jr Gryphons, Sudbury Gladiators, Peterborough Wolverines and Toronto Jr. Argos were victorious this past weekend.

Here are results from Week 4 action in both the OVFL and OFC Junior Varsity Divisions:

At Loyalist Collegiate on Saturday afternoon, Jordan Torres scored a touchdown and racked up 119 yards on five receptions as the York Simcoe Bucs emerged with a 12-8 victory over Kingston Grenadiers.

Ron Boeshoer rushed for 85 yards on 10 carries in the win.

On defence, James Kypreos recorded a solo sack as well as two solo and eight assisted sacks. Additionally, Troy Campbell registered five solo and five assisted tackles for the Bucs.

As for the Grenadiers, Drew Freake completed 20 passes in 41 attempts for 220 yards. Chad Rafferty added a PAT.

Isaac McAlonan scored from 11 yards out with 49 seconds remaining to get the Ironmen to within 2, however, the 2 point convert attempt was incomplete to send the Ironmen to their third loss of the campaign.Ā  Zeke Margaratis and Anthony Pimentel hooked up on a 42 yard pass and run and then completed the 2 point convert.Ā  Ironmen scored on a safety touch tackle in the end zone to round out their scoring.Ā  For the Eagles, Samuel Conteh ran in from 8 yards out and Conteh ran in for the 2 point convert.Ā  Marcel Grant hooked up with quarterback Khalil Wilson and then Wilson ran in for the 2 point convert.Ā  Eagles also scored when Ironmen conceded a safety touch.Ā  Ironmen see their record drop to 1-3 and Eagles move to 2-1.

On Saturday afternoon at Millennium Field, the Cumberland Panthers thumped Oshawa Hawkeyes 64-19.

For the Hawkeyes, Matt Hurley tallied two majors and had 94 yards on six receptions.Ā  Moreover, Aaron Watkins scored a touchdown and rushed for 86 yards on 11 carries.

Pivot David Maecker completed 13 passes in 23 attempts for 185 yards and two passing touchdowns in the loss.Ā  Jacob Hill was successful on a conversion attempt.

Thunder JV Offense 2014

TORONTO THUNDER 64, HALTON COWBOYS 15:

At Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School on Saturday afternoon, Shedler Fervius scored five touchdown and amassed 291 yards on nine receptions as the Toronto Thunder crushed Halton Cowboys 64-15.

Quintyn Pettiford tallied two majors and rushed for 98 yards on seven carries.Ā  Vayi Como added a score and rushed for 81 yards on 11 carries while Jaiden Mortley tallied a major and racked up 73 yards on five receptions for the Thunder. Jackson Taylor added nine PATā€™s.

Pivot Elijah Blake completed 12 passes in 20 attempts for 262 yards and four passing touchdowns in the win.

On defence, Deionte Knight recorded a solo and assisted sack as well as five solo and five assisted tackles.Ā  OPC participant Chris Sabat chipped in with one solo and one assisted sack as well as three solo and five assisted tackles for the Thunder.

As for the Cowboys, Joshua Roberts tallied a major and rushed for 101 yards on 19 carries in the loss.

ESSEX RAVENS 44, SAULT (SSM) SABRECATS 20:

On Saturday evening at Rocky Di Pietro Field, Daniel Byrne tallied a major and rushed for 232 yards on 28 carries as the Essex Ravens cruised to a 44-20 win over Sault (SSM) Sabrecats.

Liam Oā€™Halloran scored two touchdowns and rushed for 124 yards on 10 carries in the victory.Ā  Brandon Tatsu added a score and had 67 yards on three receptions. Brian Paonessa added a 17 yard field goal and five PATā€™s.

Michael Byron completed 20 passes in 36 attempts for 314 yards and two passing touchdowns for the Sabrecats.Ā Ā  Jordan Arruda tallied a major and amassed 151 yards on five receptions.Ā  Tyler Legros had 75 yards on five receptions. Aaron Grawbarger was successful on two conversion attempts in the loss.

Johnny Velcich led the Sabrecats defence with seven solo and three assisted tackles.

BRAMPTON BULLDOGS 20, MISSISSAUGA WARRIORS 14:

At Chinguacousy Park on Saturday evening, the Brampton Bulldogs pulled out a 20-14 victory over the Mississauga Warriors.

For the Warriors Josiah McKoy racked up 68 yards on six receptions while Sean Paquette was successful on two conversions in the loss.

LONDON JR MUSTANGS 39, NIAGARA SPEARS 33:

On Saturday evening at TD Waterhouse Stadium, Daniel Valente caught an interception and ran it into the end zone for a 55 yard score as well as registered five solo and six assisted tackles as the London Jr Mustangs defeated the Niagara Spears 39-33.

Chase Brown rushed for 166 yards on 30 carries for the Jr. Mustangs.Ā  Tazie Vang Bell had 88 rushing yards on 15 carries.Ā  Brian Garrity added a 17 yard field goal and four PATā€™s in the victory.

Chatham-Kent Cougars fell to the London Thunderbirds 46-7. Keyshaun Jordan scored the Cougars only Td. Extra point kicked in by Derian Wauthier. Ā One td by Jordan called back on a penalty.

SUDBURY GLADIATORS 38, VAUGHAN REBELS 0:

Rookie Nicholas Rideout amassed over 200 passing yards and had two passing touchdowns as the Sudbury Gladiators earned a 38-0 shutout victory over Vaughan Rebels in their home opener.

Bradley Patterson scored on a 58 yard touchdown reception while Jeremy Welshā€™s fumble recovery resulted in a 52 yard score for the Gladiators.

Isaac Walt scored a touchdown off a kickoff return for 80 yards. Calvin Sawyer tallied a 105 yard touchdown reception while Jeff Suitor eked into the end zone for a three yard major in the victory.

PETERBOROUGH WOLVERINES 72, CLARINGTON KNIGHTS 0:

Keegan Crough and OPC participant Cameron Gilmore each scored three touchdowns as the Peterborough Wolverines walloped the Clarington Knights 72-0.

Nick Clarkin opened the scoring as he returned a kickoff for a score.Ā  He would add another major later in the game.

Nick Foster and Ryan McNamara each had a touchdown.Ā  In addition to his three majors, Crough added a field goal and nine PATā€™s in the win.
