OVFL & OFC RECAP (VARSITY PLAYOFFS): Stampeders & Jr Argos in championship final, Jr. Mustangs, Ravens, Myers Riders & Grenadiers advance

The Burlington Stampeders and Toronto Jr Argos will battle for the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) Varsity Championship next weekend.

In the South Division Final, the Stampeders punched their ticket to the finals after taking out the Guelph Jr. Gryphons 41-21. Meanwhile, the Jr. Argos edged the Peterborough Wolverines to take the North Division Championship.

The Varsity Championship between the Stampeders and Jr. Argos will be on Saturday August 8th, 2015.

Meanwhile, the Conference Finals have been set in the Varsity Division of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).Ā  The Essex Ravens will host the London Jr. Mustangs in the Adam Conference Final while the Kingston Grenadiers will be on the road to visit the Ottawa Myers Riders in the Wettges Conference Final.

The Ravens will host the Jr Mustangs on Saturday August 8th at University of Windsor. Ā Kickoff is slated for 7:00pm. Ā The Myers Riders will host the Grenadiers at Beckwith Sports Facility on Saturday August 8th. Ā Game start is 3:00pm.

With #CFC100 Ā Tailback Jordan Lyons not present, the Stamps offensive line none the less cleared holes that chewed up 323 yards for his replacements. #CFC100 Ā Domenic Mandalfino led the Stamps ground attack with 154 yards on 16 attempts and a 6 yard score.Ā  Justin Veltri picked up the slack as he crossed the goal line from 6, 14 and 20 yards out and ended the day with 92 yards on 10 carries.Ā  Stampeders other major came from Tyler Roy hooking up with Mason Brown from 12 yards out.Ā  Adam Preocanin booted field goals of 42 and 17 yards, was 5 for 5 on convert attempts and earned a rouge on a 67 yard kickoff.Ā  Guelph majors were scored by Aiden Fraser on a 10 yard pass from Walker Breen, Breen finding Noel Amaya from 22 yards away and Nathan Small on a one yard run.Ā  Gryphons kicker Gabe Simieniec kicked two converts and had an 85 yard kickoff rouge to start the game.Ā  Stampeders will meet the Toronto Jr. Argonauts for the Championship on August 8th with kick off slated for 6:00 p.m.Ā  Junior Argos earned their berth by edging the Peterborough Wolverines 23-22 in their semi final.

GAME RECAP BY PETERBOROUGH WOLVERINES

On Sunday, the SV Wolverines traveled to Toronto to face the powerful and undefeated Jr. Argos. The Wolverines gave a great effort and lead the Jr. Argos 14-7 at the half and increased their lead to 22-13 into the 4th quarter, however, the Jr. Argos were to start their comeback and outscore the Wolverines in the final quarter. The Jr. Argos scored the winning TD with 42 seconds remaining. It was certainly a tough loss for the Wolverines who gave a great effort against the high-powered Jr. Argos offense. The Jr. Argos remain undefeated at 10-0 going into the OFC finals.

Scoring for the Wolverines Devon MacCallum with 2 TDā€™s and a single TD by Nathan Oā€™Keefe. Devin Claypole converted three PAT kicks and recorded a single. The Wolverines season has now ended with a fine 7 and 3 record. They are to be congratulated on their season and especially with their effort on Sunday against the Jr . Argos.

Cole Kussmann vs Niagara 4

LONDON JR MUSTANGS 38, NIAGARA SPEARS 21:

On Saturday night at Kiwanis Field in St. Catharines, Cole Kussmann scored a touchdown and rushed for 246 yards on 30 carries as the London Jr. Mustangs defeated the Niagara Spears 38-21.

Brentyne AndersonBrown tallied two majors and rushed for 127 yards on 14 carries for the Jr. Mustangs. Additionally, Mark Devlin scored a touchdown and amassed 78 yards on two receptions.

#CFC100 pivot Tristan Arndt completed five passes in 12 attempts for 114 yards and two passing touchdowns.Ā  Neil Garrity added a 15 yard field goal and five PATā€™s in the win.

On defence, Jacob Gold led the way with seven solo and five assisted tackles.Ā  Fernando De La Rose added an assisted and six solo tackles for the Jr. Mustangs.

At University of Windsor Stadium on Saturday night, Braeden Braccio tallied two majors and rushed for 212 yards on 21 carries as the Essex Ravens cruised to a 45-20 victory over Cambridge Lions.

Anthony Bontorin completed 11 passes in 19 attempts for 145 yards and two passing touchdowns in the win.Ā  Alex Bornais scored a touchdown and racked up 67 yards on five receptions.Ā  Nick Langley added a score and had 41 yards on two receptions for the Ravens.

Dante Brown added a 52 yard field goal and was successful on six conversion attempts.

Erik Erickson caught an interception as well as registered six solo and three assisted tackles to lead the Ravensā€™ defence.Ā  Kevin Limbombe recorded a solo sack and added four solo tackles.

As for the Lions, Mark Christopher completed 14 passes in 31 attempts for 149 yards, rushed for 43 yards on 11 carries and a passing touchdown.Ā  Jacob Metcalfe rushed for 36 yards on 12 carries in the loss.

Connor Gardiner amassed 42 yards on two receptions while #CFC100 Gordon Lam racked up 42 yards on four receptions for the Lions.

Nathan McLean added two PATā€™s.

At Pine Ridge High School on Saturday afternoon, Nikolas Daniele scored a touchdown and racked up 64 yards on three receptions as the Kingston Grenadiers grabbed a 14-8 win over West Durham Dolphins.

Jeremy Pendergast had a 54 yard reception while Harry Robinson amassed 49 yards on four receptions for the Grenadiers.

Dylan Fisher completed 12 passes in 26 attempts for 218 yards and a passing touchdown in the victory.Ā  Mike Bashall added two field goals (35 and 31 yards), a PAT and a rouge.

Konner Burtenshaw led the Grenadiers defence as he recorded two solo tackled as well as an assisted and five solo tackles.
