OVFL & OFC Week 4 (JV) RECAP: Metz magical & Lions feast on Spears

Another week is completed in both the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

After Week 4 action, there are four teams that remain undefeated – Cumberland Panthers, Mississauga Warriors, Cambridge Lions and Scarborough Thunder.Β  Other winners include Ottawa Myers Riders, London Jr Mustangs, Brampton Bulldogs, York Simcoe Bucs and Hamilton Ironmen.

In the OFC, winners included Chatham-Kent Cougars, Forest City Thunderbirds, Huronia Stallions, Hamilton Hurricanes, Peterborough Wolverines, Brantford Bisons, Oakville Titans and Sudbury Gladiators.

ONTARIO VARSITY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (OVFL):

Cambridge Lions logo

CAMBRIDGE LIONS 34, NIAGARA SPEARS 3:

At Jacob Hespeler Field, Jackson White had 13 completions in 24 attempts for 257 yards and four touchdowns as the Cambridge Lions cruised to a 34-3 victory over the visiting Niagara Spears.

Devante Hudson scored two touchdowns and amassed 152 yards on nine receptions (average of 16.9 yards per reception).

Malex Cameron caught three interceptions, including one for a touchdown and registered four solo and four assisted tackles.Β  Mario Pineda had seven solo and seven assisted tackles.Β  Ben Drummond registered six solo and seven assisted tackles.Β  Nathan McLean added five PAT’s.

As for the Spears, Hayden Riley was successful on 17 yard field goal.Β  Troy Baxter rushed for 82 yards on 11 carries in the loss.

Cumberland Panthers

CUMBERLAND PANTHERS 49, OSHAWA HAWKEYES 6:

At Paul Dwyer High School, Nick Renaud (127 yards on six receptions) and Jamal Mavinga (104 yards on two receptions) each tallied two majors as the Cumberland Panthers crushed the Oshawa Hawkeyes 49-6.

Conor McMahon (133 yards on seven carries) and Isaac Brown (85 yards on two carries) each ran into the end zone once for the Panthers.

Pascal Roy Lapensee completed 12 passes in 20 attempts for 270 yards and four passing touchdowns in the victory.

Nicholas Russo led the Panthers defense with four solo and six assisted tackles as well as a solo sack. He also caught an interception in the game.

Anthony Dantas tallied the lone points on the scoreboard for the Hawkeyes as he was successful on two field goal attempts (including one for 18 yards).

JV Toronto Thunder

SCARBOROUGH THUNDERΒ  21, AJAX-PICKERING DOLPHINS 7:

At Birchmount Stadium, Connor Smith completed 19 passes in 24 attempts for 247 yards and two passing touchdowns as the Scarborough Thunder coasted to a 21-7 win over the Ajax-Pickering Dolphins.

Raign Harris tallied a major and had 77 yards on six receptions for the Thunder.

As for the Dolphins, Justin completed 18 passes in 26 attempts for 306 yards and a passing touchdown in the loss.

OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS 51, METRO TORONTO WILDCATS 14:

At Minto Field, Jacob Spinella completed seven passes in 11 attempts for 158 yards and four passing touchdowns as the Ottawa Myers Riders defeated the Metro Toronto Wildcats 51-14.

Jean-Paul Cimankinda scored a touchdown and rushed for 105 yards on five carries (average of 21 yards per carry) for the Myers Riders.Β  Owen Clement added seven PAT’s.

Joshua Knight was successful on two conversion attempts for the Wildcats.

LDN JR Mustangs

LONDON JR MUSTANGS 23, ESSEX RAVENS 20:

At TD Waterhouse Stadium, Thomas Hawkins tallied a major and racked up 81 yards on three receptions (average of 27 yards per reception) as the London Jr Mustangs edged the Essex Ravens 23-20.

Brentyne Anderson Brown rushed for 177 yards on 26 carries for the Mustangs.Β  Pivot Ben Schmidt completed nine passes in 20 attempts for 136 yards and two passing touchdowns. William Upfold added three PAT’s.

As for the Ravens, Brandon Speller scored two touchdowns and had 97 yards on three receptions (average of 32.3 yards per reception). Eric Wismer registered four solo and 13 assisted tackles while Eric Erickson had three solo and 13 assisted tackles.Β  Additionally, Daniel Metcalfe added seven solo and eight assisted tackles as well as recording a sack in the loss.

MISSISSAUGA WARRIORS 47, SSM SABRECATS 7:

At Rocky DiPietro Field, Brandon Metz scored four touchdowns (including two from punt returns) and rushed for 97 yards on six carries as the Mississauga Warriors cruised to a 47-7 victory over the Sault Ste Marie (SSM Sabrecats).

Ajet Suljejmani tallied a major and had 94 yards on two carries for the Warriors.Β  Trey Bryden scored a touchdown off a punt return.Β  Sean Paquette was successful on five conversion attempts.

Brampton Bulldogs logo

BRAMPTON BULLDOGS 35, ETOBICOKE EAGLES 0:

At Chingcousy Park, Jevante Stanley tallied two majors and rushed for 115 yards on 16 carries as the Brampton Bulldogs earned a shutout victory over the Etobicoke Eagles 35-0.

Jamal Nkrumah racked up 68 yards on five receptions for the Bulldogs.Β  Juwan Jesquith added five PAT’s in the win.

As for the Eagles, Justice Allin rushed for 105 yards on 26 carries.Β  On defense, William Koos led the Eagles with six solo and seven assisted tackles.

York Simcoe Bucs

YORK SIMCOE BUCS 28, MARKHAM RAIDERS 8:

At Mount Joy, Michael Bazzo completed 10 passes in 15 attempts for 117 yards and a passing touchdown as the York Simcoe Bucs defeated the Markham Raiders 28-8.

Hamilton Ironmen

HAMILTON IRONMEN 49, HALTON COWBOYS 0:

At Jean Vanier Catholic High School, Daniel Skuse scored two touchdowns and rushed for 103 yards on 12 carries as the Hamilton Ironmen crushed the Halton Cowboys 49-0.

Pivot Alexander DiPietro completed 22 passes in 26 attempts for 238 yards and two passing touchdowns for the Ironmen.Β  David Benedetti added five PAT’s.

On defense, Sebastian Paciocco led the way as he caught an interception and ran it into the end zone for 55 yard touchdown score.Β  Additionally, Paciocco recorded a sack as well as registered two solo and five assisted tackles in the victory.

ONTARIO FOOTBALL CONFERENCE (OFC):

Chatham Kent Cougars

CHATHAM KENT COUGARS 23, SARNIA STURGEON 0:

Offensively

Kelton Evans went 7/12 for 95 yards and a TD pass to Jake Anderson

Jake Anderson caught 5 balls for 55 yards and a TD

Clay Shreve had 1 catch for 40 yards

Jermaine Caldwell Brendan Marr and Ethan Baylis combined for 100 yards rushing

The Cougars offense accounted for significant yards that were taken away by suspect calls made, noting Kelton Evans ran for close to 70 yards and a TD that was reversed on 2 separate runs

Defensively

Ricky O’Rourke had 10 tackles and a sack

Alex Formosa had 2 tackles, 4 sacks and a forced fumble

Quentin Forgie had 4 tackles andΒ  Eric Penney, Kenny Levesque, Colin Hoorelbeck andΒ  David Nethersole having 3

Evan Wolsey and Mo Ibari both had interceptions for TD’s and Jake Anderson added 2 interceptions and Nolan Hakr 1

Brendan Marr also had a fumble recovery

Clay Shreve had many long returns to set the Cougar’s offense up with great field position

“We came into a hostile environment 0-2 and these gentlemen answered the call.Β  Total team effort battling a very chippy opponent and a suspect refereeing crew.Β  Our boys gelled tonight, while keeping classy, playing our game.Β  Defensively, we were a beast out there, while offensively we moved the ball well with our offensive line coming together and owning the line of scrimmage.”

Patrick Pearson tallied three majors (including a 65 yard rushing touchdown) as the Peterborough Wolverines got by the Clarington Knights 20-16.

Shamus Drumm added two PAT’s for the victors.
