OVFL & OFC Week 4 (Varsity) Recap: Wildcats win thriller & Hurricanes narrowly escape

Week 4 is in the books for both the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

In the OVFL, only two unbeaten teams remain – Ottawa Myers Riders and Cambridge Lions.Β  Not only did both those teams win this past weekend, but so did the Cumberland Panthers, Cornwall Wildcats, Scarborough Thunder, Essex Ravens, Mississauga Warriors, Brampton Bulldogs, York Simcoe Bucs and Halton Cowboys.

Meanwhile, the Hamilton Hurricanes narrowly kept their undefeated streak alive as they handed the Guelph Gryphons their first defeat of the OFC season.Β  Other Week 4 winners include Peterborough Wolverines, Huronia Stallions and North Halton Crimson Tide.

Here are results for WEEK 4 OVFL and OVC Varsity Divisions

ONTARIO VARSITY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (OVFL):

Cumberland Panthers

CUMBERLAND PANTHERS 22, OSHAWA HAWKEYES 11:

At Paul Dwyer High School, Jacob Molinski scored two touchdowns and rushed for 96 yards on 14 carries as the Cumberland Panthers defeated the Oshawa Hawkeyes 22-11.

Cedric Ky rushed for 64 yards on 13 carries.

On defense, Matthew Perry registered three solo and 11 assisted tackles.Β  Matt Cook added two solo and seven assisted tackles as well as recording four solo and two assisted sacks for the Panthers.

As for the Hawkeyes, Jordan Baronet added a 14 yard field goal and a PAT.Β  Niko Isovski led the defense with seven solo and five assisted tackles.

Cornwall Win Week 4

CORNWALL WILDCATS 17, KINGSTON GRENADIERS 16:

At CCVS High School, the Cornwall Wildcats edged the Kingston Grenadiers 17-16.

Alex Douglas completed 11 passes in 18 attempts for 149 passing yards.Β  He was also successful on a 37 yard field goal and added two PATs for the Wildcats.

Michael Bashall added two field goals (including one for 26 yards) and two PAT’s for the Grenadiers.Β  Pivot Dylan Fisher completed 12 passes in 26 attempts for 210 passing yards.Β  Nathan Thompson amassed 124 yards on seven receptions (average of 26 yards per reception).Β  Jeremy Pendergast added 90 yards on six receptions. Liam Brand rushed for 68 yards on 13 carries in the loss.

SCARBOROUGH THUNDER 30, AJAX-PICKERING DOLPHINS 7:

At Birchmount Stadium, Rakeem Simms tallied two majors and rushed for 79 yards on 13 carries as the Scarborough Thunder coasted to a 30-7 victory over the Ajax-Pickering Dolphins.

Antoine Lyte-Myers also scored a touchdown off a punt return for the Thunder.

As for the Dolphins, Alonzo Addae scored the lone touchdown in the loss.

Matthew Duffy Week 4 OVFL

OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS 37, METRO TORONTO WILDCATS 6:

At Minto Field, Matthew Duffy completed 17 passes in 24 attempts for 333 yards and three passing touchdowns as the Ottawa Myers Riders cruised to a 37-6 win over the Metro Toronto Wildcats.

Jaegar Prot tallied a major and had 87 yards on five receptions (average of 17.4 yards per reception) for the Myers Riders.Β  Additionally, Kiell Barrie had an 80 yard touchdown off a kickoff return.

ESSEX RAVENS 49, LONDON JR MUSTANGS 7:

At TD Waterhouse Stadium, Elijah Fera scored three touchdowns and rushed for 227 yards on 24 carries as the Essex Ravens crushed the London Jr. Mustangs 49-7.

Pivot Anthony Bontorin completed six passes in nine attempts for 168 yards and a passing touchdown for the Ravens. Jakoby Jones rushed for 66 yards on 12 carries.

Hunter Tilden tallied the lone major for the Mustangs while racking up 93 yards on four receptions (average of 23.2 yards per reception).Β  Β Matthew Decicco completed 11 passes in 22 attempts for 184 yards and a passing touchdown in the loss.Β  Moreover, Danny Mundt rushed for 66 yards on 12 carries.

As for the Mustangs defense, Donovan Selmes led the way as he caught an interception and added seven solo and an assisted tackle.

MISSISSAUGA WARRIORS 35, SSM SABRECATS 20:

At Rocky DiPietro Field, Nate Hobbs completed 17 passes in 37 attempts for 308 yards and four passing touchdowns as the Mississauga Warriors defeated the Sault Ste. Marie (SSM) Sabrecats 35-20.

Trea Ivey scored two touchdowns and had 99 yards on four receptions for the Warriors.Β  Additionally, Rochea Henry tallied a major and racked up 102 yards on five receptions.Β  Nicholaus Sutherland-Barnes also scored a touchdown and rushed for 158 rushing yards on 27 carries for the victors.

Dante Brown was successful on all five of his conversion attempts.

Brampton Bulldogs Week 4 varsity OVFL

BRAMPTON BULLDOGS 31, ETOBICOKE EAGLES 20:

At Chingcousy Park, Richmond Ntekiah tallied two majors and rushed for 114 yards on 16 carries as the Brampton Bulldogs got by the Etobicoke Eagles 31-20.

Chris Osei-Kusi also scored a touchdown and amassed 98 yards on five receptions (average of 19.6 yards per reception) for the Bulldogs. Kenechukwa Oneyka scored a touchdown as well as registered a solo and four assisted tackles.Β  He also recorded two solo and an assisted sack in the win.Β  Kalum Lepiane added a 14 yards field goal and a PAT.

As for the Eagles, Matthew Donato completed 13 passes on 28 attempts for 254 yards and a passing touchdown.Β  Brandon O’Leary-Orange racked up 174 yards on eight receptions (average of 21.8 yards per reception).

Gage Leaver led the Eagles defense with nine solo and an assisted tackle as well as recording a solo sack.

York Simcoe Bucs

YORK SIMCOE BUCS 43, MARKHAM RAIDERS 17:

At Mount Joy, the York Simcoe Bucs cruised to a 43-17 victory over the Markham Raiders.

Marc Liegghio added three PAT’s for the victors.

For the Raiders, Austin Gonsalves scored a touchdown and had 147 yards on four receptions (average of 36.8 yards per reception).Β  Dale Wright rushed for 69 yards on nine carries and was successful on a conversion attempt.

Pivot Matt Prucha completed 11 passes in 28 attempts for 270 yards and two passing touchdowns in the loss.

Conor Kenney led the Raiders defense with eight solo and six assisted tackles.

Halton Cowboys

HALTON COWBOYS 26, HAMILTON IRONMEN 11:

At Jean Vanier Catholic High School, Merrick Sproule added two 16 yard field goals as well as two PATs s the Halton Cowboys defeated the Hamilton Ironmen 26-11.

Darius Lamiere had 17 completions in 40 attempts for 164 yards for the Ironmen.Β  Jeffrey Beattie was successful on a 35 yard field goal attempt and a conversion attempt in the loss.

Alex MacDonald led the Ironmen defense with seven solo and four assisted tackles.

CAMBRIDGE LIONS 24, NIAGARA SPEARS 16:

At Jacob Hespeler Field, James Roberts completed 20 passes in 34 attempts for 275 yards and a passing touchdown as the Cambridge Lions won over the Niagara Spears 24-16.

Kieran Burnham added a 34 yard field goal for the Lions.Β  Kaden Jespersen amassed 134 yards on seven receptions.

Mitchell Weiler led the Lions defense as he caught two interceptions and five solo and an assisted tackle in the win.
