OVFL & OFC Week 7 Varsity Recap: Hurricanes unstoppable & Ravens keep soaring

Week 7 is complete in both the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

Among the OVFL winners were the Essex Ravens, Oshawa Hawkeyes, Ajax-Pickering Dolphins, London Jr. Mustangs, SSM Sabrecats, Mississauga Warriors and Niagara Spears.

In the Ontario Football Conference, the Hamilton Hurricanes remain perfect after this weekend’s action.Β  Other winners included Huronia Stallions and North Halton Crimson Tide.

Here are results for WEEK 7 OVFL and OVC Varsity Divisions

ONTARIO VARSITY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (OVFL):

Elijah Fera Week 7 OVFL

ESSEX RAVENS 56, ETOBICOKE EAGLES 0:

At University of Windsor, Eli Fera rushed for 135 yards on 12 carries and tallied two majors as the Essex Ravens crushed the Etobicoke Eagles 56-0.

Anthony Bontorin completed four passes in nine attempts and had two passing touchdowns in the win. Hugh Paulin was successful on all eight of his conversion attempts.

As for the Eagles, Neko Hamilton rushed for 78 yards on 10 carries.Β  Bryan Smith completed eight passes in 27 attempts for 140 passing yards. Gage Leaver led the Eagles defense as he registered seven solo and seven assisted tackles in the loss.

Oshawa Hawkeyes

OSHAWA HAWKEYES 42, MARKHAM RAIDERS 12:

At Oshawa Civic Stadium, Idahosa Yorke scored a touchdown and amassed 72 yards on three receptions as the Oshawa Hawkeyes cruised to a 42-12 victory over the Markham Raiders.

Pivot Jack Hazlett completed six passes in 15 attempts for 118 yards and a passing touchdown for the Hawkeyes. Jordan Baronet added six PAT’s in the win.

On defense, Clay Matthews-Reid caught an interception while registering nine solo and an assisted tackles. Dylan Hutcheson recorded three solo sacks as well as four solo and three assisted tackles for the Hawkeyes.Β  Davian Reid-Lynch caught two interceptions as well as registered four solo and two assisted sacks.

Matt Prucha completed 24 passes in 48 attempts for 288 yards and two passing touchdowns for the Raiders. Andrew Douglas tallied a major and had 78 yards on nine receptions in the loss. Tucker Rozeboom added a PAT.

Solomon St.Bernard led the Raiders defense as he recorded one solo and one assisted sack.Β  Also, he added four solo and four assisted tackles.

Pickering Dolphins Logo

AJAX-PICKERING DOLPHINS 24, YORK SIMCOE BUCS 0:

At St. Maximillian Kolbe High School, Kamau Farrell-Burke (56 yards on three receptions) tallied two majors as the Ajax-Pickering Dolphins earned a 24-0 shutout win over the York Simcoe Bucs.

Jaylen La Touche completed seven passes in 16 attempts for 136 yards and two passing touchdowns for the Dolphins.Β  George Goudogianis was successful on three conversion attempts.

Donte Smith led the Dolphins defense with six solo and four assisted tackles.

As for the Bucs, Luke Ciraco recorded two solo sacks as well as registered two solo and nine assisted tackles in the loss.

LDN JR Mustangs

LONDON JR MUSTANGS 50, CAMBRIDGE LIONS 48:

At TD Waterhouse Stadium, Cole Kussman scored two touchdowns and rushed for 222 yards on 24 carries as the London Jr. Mustangs edged the Cambridge Lions 50-48.

Daishane Johnson also tallied two majors and racked up 162 yards on six receptions for the Mustangs.Β  Pivot Luke Petropoulakis completed 13 passes in 23 attempts for 238 yards and four passing touchdowns in the victory.

Mackenzie Ferguson registered seven solo and an assisted tackle to lead the Mustangs defense.Β  Tyler Rogers-Stonefish added five solo and five assisted tackles.

James Roberts completed 24 passes in 31 attempts for 248 yards and three passing touchdowns for the Lions.Β  Brad Vince (61 yards on four receptions) scored twice while Alexander Salytchev (155 yards on nine carries) and Jacob Metcalfe (74 yards on 12 carries) each tallied a major in the loss.

Keiran Burnham added two field goals (25 and 20 yard) and added six PAT’s for the Lions.

SSM Sabrecats

SSM SABRECATS 30, HALTON COWBOYS 8:

At Rocky DiPietro Field, Justin Senechal tallied two majors and rushed for 110 yards on 13 carries as the SSM Sabrecats coasted to a 30-8 win over the Halton Cowboys.

Nathan Elgie completed 13 passes in 22 attempts for 135 yards, two passing touchdowns as well as 74 yards on five receptions for the Sabrecats. Brandon Vernelli was successful on four conversion attempts in the victory.

As for the Sabrecats defense, Ray Duplin registered three solo and seven assisted tackles.

Niagara Spears Week 7 OVFL

NIAGARA SPEARS 27, BRAMPTON BULLDOGS 13:

At Kiwanis Field, the Niagara Spears defeated the Brampton Bulldogs 27-13.

For the Bulldogs, Noah Akharoh had 100 yards on three receptions.Β  Pivot Matthew Bills completed 13 passes in 20 attempts for 212 passing yards in the loss. Kalum LePiane added a PAT.
