OVFL & OFC Week 7 (JV) Recap: Offensive outburst in London & Sudbury wins nailbiter

Week 7 is in the books for both the junior varsity Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

In the OVFL, the Ottawa Myers Riders remain perfect after their win this past weekend’s action.Β  Other winners include the Niagara Spears, Scarborough Thunder, Metro Toronto Wildcats, Essex Ravens, Cambridge Lions, SSM Sabrecats, Markham Raiders and the Hamilton Ironmen.

As for the OFC, Huronia Stallions, Peterborough Wolverines, Forest City Thunderbirds, Hamilton Hurricanes, Clarington Knights and Sudbury Gladiators all won their games.

ONTARIO VARSITY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (OVFL):

NIAGARA SPEARS 24, BRAMPTON BULLDOGS 21:

At Kiwanis Field, Troy Baxter scored three touchdowns and rushed for 102 yards on 20 carries as the Niagara Spears got by the Brampton Bulldogs 24-21.

Hayden Riley added a 38 yard and three PAT’s for the Spears.

As for the Bulldogs, Hunter Brown scored a touchdown off a punt return.Β  Harjas Bal registered five solo and six assisted tackles to lead the defense.

JV Toronto Thunder

SCARBOROUGH THUNDER 43, KINGSTON GRENADIERS 7:

At Mary Ward CSS, Connor Smith completed 17 passes in 25 attempts for 311 yards and four passing touchdowns as the Scarborough Thunder cruised to a 43-7 win over the Kingston Grenadiers.

Shedler Fervius tallied two majors and amassed 139 yards on five receptions for the Thunder. He was also successful on four conversion attempts.

Pivot Brendan Steele completed 14 passes in 24 attempts for 160 yards and a passing touchdown for the Grenadiers.

METRO TORONTO WILDCATS 34, OSHAWA HAWKEYES 0:

At Esther Shriner Stadium, Mekhi Hyman scored a touchdown and rushed for 185 yards on 13 carries as the Metro Toronto Wildcats earned a 34-0 shutout victory over the Oshawa Hawkeyes.

Nicholas Cartagenise completed seven passes in 12 attempts for 137 yards and two passing touchdowns for the Wildcats.Β Β  Joshua Knight added a 27 yard field goal and three PAT’s.

Essex Ravens

ESSEX RAVENS 36, ETOBICOKE EAGLES 6:

At Villanova High School, Eric Wismer tallied two majors and rushed for 115 yards on eight carries as the Essex Ravens coasted to a 36-6 win over the Etobicoke Eagles.

Zach Herzog (95 yards on two receptions), Inho Choi (141 yards on eight carries) and David Reaume (113 yards on 18 carries) each scored a touchdown for the Ravens.

As for the Eagles, Joshua Amador recorded a sack as well as registered four solo and eight assisted tackles in the loss.

CAMBRIDGE LIONS 44, LONDON JR MUSTANGS 36:

At TD Waterhouse Stadium, Jackson White completed 21 passes in 35 attempts for 432 yards and four passing touchdowns as the Cambridge Lions defeated the London Jr. Mustangs 44-36.

Devante Hudson scored two touchdowns and racked up 171 yards on 10 receptions for the Lions.Β  Gordon Lam (140 yards on six receptions) and Nathan McLean (96 yards on two receptions) each tallied a major. McLean added two field goals (32 and 14 yards) and five PAT’s.

Ben Drummond registered seven solo and nine assisted tackles while Jared Beeksma caught an interception as well as added seven solo and three assisted tackles.Β  Malex Cameron caught an interception, recorded a solo sack as well as registered five solo and two assisted tackles for the Lions.

As for the Mustangs, Brentyne Anderson Brown scored two touchdowns and rushed for 306 yards on 28 carries.Β  Thomas Hawkins tallied a major and had 117 yards on four receptions.Β  He also added a 22 yard field goal and two PAT’s.

Pivot Ben Schmidt completed 12 passes in 28 attempts for 192 yards and two touchdowns.

SSM SABRECATS 35, HALTON COWBOYS 30:

Markham Raiders

MARKHAM RAIDERS 20, AJAX-PICKERING DOLPHINS 7:

At Mount Joy, Quinn Matrix-Baker scored two touchdowns and racked up 112 yards on nine receptions as the Markham Raiders defeated the Ajax-Pickering Dolphins 20-7.

Jamahl Brown added a major and rushed for 122 yards on 16 carries for the Raiders.Β  Elijah Blake completed 12 passes in 17 attempts for 147 yards and two passing touchdowns in the win.

Liam Patton caught an interception as well as registered five solo and four assisted tackles.Β  He was successful on two conversion attempts for the Raiders.Β  Nathaniel Chung added six solo and seven assisted tackles.

As for the Dolphins, Robert Carmichael amassed 140 yards on seven receptions.

Hamilton Ironmen JV Week 5 win

HAMILTON IRONMEN 37, MISSISSAUGA WARRIORS 8:

At Loyola Catholic Secondary School, Zeke Margaritis tallied a major and racked up 124 yards on seven receptions as the Hamilton Ironmen cruised to a 37-8 victory over the Mississauga Warriors.

Pivot Alexander DiPietro completed 17 passes in 22 attempts for 262 yards and three passing touchdowns for the Ironmen.Β  David Benedetti added a 29 yard field goal and four PAT’s in the win.

On defense, Myles Ransome recorded a solo sack as well as registered four solo and seven assisted tackles.Β  Kosta Petrovic had an assisted sack as well as two solo and 13 assisted tackles for the Ironmen.

Alexander Lavric completed 13 passes in 21 attempts for 151 yards and a passing touchdown for the Warriors.Β  Jamoy Thompson led the defense with five solo and six assisted tackles.

Ottawa Myers Riders JV Week 5

OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS 54, YORK SIMCOE BUCS 7:

At St. Maximillian Kolbe High School, Jalla Lansanah scored three touchdowns – including a 51 yard punt return and rushed for 103 yards on 10 carries as the Ottawa Myers Riders crushed the York Simcoe Bucs 54-7.

Jacob Spinella was nearly perfect on the field as he completed nine passes in 10 attempts for 155 yards and two passing touchdowns for the Myers Riders. Owen Clement added six PAT’s in the win.

For the Bucs, Michael Bazzo was successful on a conversion attempt.

Ethan Baylis had 2 rushing TD’s

Spenser Mason had a 45 yard run for a TD

Defensively

Nolan Hakr and Mo Ibari both had interceptions

Kenny Levesque, Eric Penney, Quentin Forgie and Nolan Hakr had stellar games for the defense

Clay Shreve was also had a great game setting up great field position for the Cougars
