OVFL & OFC Week 8 Varsity Recap: Myers Riders take Capital City Clash

Week 8 is now completed in the Varsity Divisions of both Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

With only six games on the OVFL schedule, the Myers Riders maintained their perfect record as they were victorious in the Capital City Clash against rivals Cumberland Panthers.Β  Other winners included Kingston Grenadiers, Cornwall Wildcats, Scarborough Thunder and SSM Sabrecats.

Winner in the OFC include the Hamilton Hurricanes, Chatham Kent Cougars, Sudbury Gladiators, Huronia Stallions and Forest City Thunderbirds

ONTARIO VARSITY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (OVFL):

Grenadiers 2014 Logo

KINGSTON GRENADIERS 41, OSHAWA HAWKEYES 7:

At LCVI, Dylan Fisher completed 16 passes in 32 attempts for 249 yards and four passing touchdowns as the Kingston Grenadiers cruised to a 41-7 victory over the Oshawa Hawkeyes.

Nathan Thompson (88 yards on four receptions), Jeremy Pendergast (60 yards on three receptions), Riley Avery (70 yard carry) and Konner Burtenshaw (44 yards on six carries) each scored a touchdown for the Grenadiers. Terrance Edgley added three PAT’s while Michael Bashall was successful on a conversion attempt.

On defense, David Hron registered four solo and six assisted tackles for the Grenadiers.Β  Lance Cellini caught an interception and added five assisted tackles.

Cornwall Win Week 4

CORNWALL WILDCATS 35, AJAX-PICKERING DOLPHINS 21:

At Joe St. Denis Field, Oden Robertson tallied two majors and rushed for 143 yards on 10 carries as the Cornwall Wildcats defeated the Ajax-Pickering Dolphins 35-21.

Chris Millward also scored a touchdown and had 51 yards on three receptions for the Wildcats.Β  Pivot Alex Douglas completed 12 passes in 17 attempts for 168 yards and a passing touchdown. He was also perfect on all five of his conversion attempts.

Travis Gaspe led the Wildcats defense as he recorded a solo sack as well as registering two solo and three assisted tackles.

As for the Dolphins, CFC TOP 100 Raishaun Provo scored two touchdowns and rushed for 37 yards.Β  Kamau Farrell-Burke tallied a major and racked up 165 yards on seven receptions.Β  George Goudogianis added three PAT’s in the loss.

On defense, Kesean Bennett caught an interception, recorded a solo sack as well as a solo and five assisted tackles.

Myers Riders versus Cumberland week 8 OVFL 2014 2

OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS 38, CUMBERLAND PANTHERS 7:

At Minto Field, Jaegar Prot scored a major and amassed 127 yards on seven receptions as the Ottawa Myers Riders coasted to a 38-7 victory over the Cumberland Panthers.

Keenan Tanti (51 rushing yards) and Phil Iloki (48 receiving yards on three receptions) each tallied a major for the Myers Riders.Β  Jahdel Ferron rushed for 109 yards on 10 carries.

Matthew Duffy completed 14 passes in 25 attempts for 271 yards and three passing touchdowns in the win.Β  Connor Ayre added a 28 yard field goal and five PAT’s.

Abed Hamidi led the Myers Riders defense as he registered six solo and three assisted tackles.Β  Tremayne Rockburn added four assisted tackles.

SCARBOROUGH THUNDER 49, MARKHAM RAIDERS 14:

At Mount Joy, Lewis Lamey tallied two majors and racked up 103 yards on three receptions as the Scarborough Thunder coasted to a 49-14 win over the Markham Raiders.

Andre Goulborne scored a touchdown and rushed for 150 yards on 20 carries for the Thunder.Β  Chris Larsen completed six passes in 11 attempts for 168 yards, three passing touchdowns and rushed for 75 yards on five carries. Daynar Fancey was successful on all seven of his conversion attempts.

Connor Lindeman recorded two solo and an assisted tackle for the Thunder.Β  He also registered two solo and four assisted tackles.Β  Alijah Wilson-Agosto added a solo sack as well as seven solo and an assisted tackle.

Austin Gonsalves tallied two majors and had 113 yards on seven receptions for the Raiders.Β  Pivot Matt Prucha completed 21 passes in 41 attempts for 248 yards and two passing touchdowns in the loss.

Jesse Tocchet registered nine solo and eight assisted tackles.Β  Ryan Prucha added five solo and seven assisted tackles for the Raiders.

Huronia Stallions Week 8 OFC

 

HURONIA STALLIONS 52, PETERBOROUGH WOLVERINES 7:

The Huronia Stallions Varsity team finished the regular season with a 52-7 trouncing of the Peterborough Wolverines.Β  The Stallions were led by a fantastic defensive effort highlighted by the establishment of a new team record of 7 interceptions in a game.Β  These were recorded by Dylan Martin (2), Austin Buck (2), Max Mallo, Caleb Nunes and Danthony Duchaney.Β  The top defensive players in the game were team captain Mack Holliday who had 5 total tackles and a sack, Brandon Johnston who had 10 total tackles with 5 coming on special teams and Jay Van Dam with 7 total tackles.Β  On offence, first year Varsity player Matt Howe had a breakout game with 190 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just 12 carries.Β  Howe’s stellar day included an explosive 70 yard touchdown run.Β  Wide Receiver Jayden Kelly returned to action with two touchdowns.Β  Unfortunately, Kelly had three touchdowns called back due to penalty.Β  Veteran quarterback Adam Zussino steadily directed the offence throughout the game and posted 140 passing yards on 10 of 17 attempts with 2 touchdowns and an interception.Β  Fullback Jake Allen also had a strong game with 78 tough yards on 10 carries.Β  The Stallions end the regular season with a 6-2 record earning them a home playoff game the weekend of July 25-27 against an opponent to be determined.
