OVFL: Oshawa Hawkeyes organization outscored 106-7 against Myers Riders

Last weekend both the Varsity and Junior Varsity Hawkeyes faced off against Myers teams from their league. In both cases, the games did not end well or go as planned in any way, shape or form. The Varsity Hawkeyes lost 42-7 last weekend and their younger brothers lost 64-0 in a true blowout fashion.

The loss puts the Varsity team at an overall record of 2-5 and out of the playoffs. This season has had some real ups and downs for Coach T and his squad. It started with a huge opening day win over Brantford where almost everything went right for them. However, the team quickly lost their groove when their week two game was postponed and the Hawks never seemed to fully recover their momentum. The Hawkeyes have lost most games by about 20 points but this was by far the most lopsided loss they’ve experienced this season. Defensively they had a very hard time stopping the Riders run game; the team put up 150 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The Hawkeyes defense only got to the opposing QB once, and that was their first time in two weeks. On offense they didn’t fair much better. Harrison added another touchdown pass to his stats when he hit Jordan Duncan for a 25 yarder. The always-dependable Evan Rutherford hauled in seven passes for just over 50 yards in the game. I think it is safe to say he has been the team MVP this year.

The Varsity Hawkeyes have a very good chance to redeem their season and add some respectability with their final game of the year this weekend against Cornwall. The Wildcats are another team who’s season has been a disappointment as they sit at 1-6 heading into the weekend. I expect Coach T to have his boys ready to play and go out there with a chip on their shoulder. Hawkeyes 37 Wildcats 18

The Junior Varsity Hawkeyes are still winless since their opening day shutout over Etobicoke, a team that has also won just one game all year. Last week versus the Riders, the Hawkeyes were kept in check offensively all game. RB Bodley only gained 40 yards on the ground, and the team as a whole only completed five passes. When your offense has that lack of production you can’t expect your defense to garner much enthusiasm or production themselves. Allowing 64 points is never something to be proud of but you know Coach O’Connor would be proud of his team for at least stepping on the field and competing. This season has been a massive disappointment for the JV’s but it has been a learning experience for most of the players. The Hawkeyes face Essex this weekend which is a team fighting for playoff position. I expect the coach’s mentality going into the game is to play spoiler but it will be tough to keep the teams morale and motivation high. Hawkeyes 10 Ravens 38.
