OVFL Playoff Preview: “We just have to keep playing our game”

The varsity Ottawa Myers Riders of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL)  are perfect in the regular season, but now it’s do or die as they begin their 2014 playoff campaign this weekend.

After a first round bye last weekend, the Myers Riders will face the Toronto Thunder on Saturday.

“The Boys are prepared,” says varsity Myers Riders Head Coach Max Palladino.  “Toronto has some great athletes.”

“We just have to keep playing our game.”

Myers Riders Week 9 OVFL 3

So far this season, the Myers Riders have been playing “lights out” in all aspects of the game. They come into the playoffs as the top seed in the OVFL with an 8-0 record on the season.

In their previous matchup in Week 6, the Myers Riders cruised to a  45-7 victory over the Thunder.

Meanwhile, the junior varsity Myer Riders play their first playoff game this weekend against the Kingston Grenadiers. Last weekend, the team  enjoyed a first round bye.

“It’s going to be a battle of two offensive teams,” said Myers Riders junior varsity Head Coach Matt Kassner.  “We need our athletes to make big plays for us.”

The Grenadiers are fresh off a 24-23 upset win against the Toronto Thunder last weekend. The Myers Riders are prepared to face a hungry Grenadiers squad.

“We’re prepared, we just have to stick to our game plan,” adds Kassner.

The  junior varsity Myers Riders are coming into the playoffs after posting a 7-1 record during the regular season.
