OVFL (Preview): Varsity Wildcats prepared to “make sacrifices” to finish on top

Head Coach Frank Panos is optimistic about the upcoming Metro Toronto Wildcats season (Varsity).  His optimism is in part due to offensive returners Travis Jennings (RB), Nikko Stamatis (QB), Zach Bader (OL), Kyle Wright (REC) and defensive returners Taj Mills (DL), Tristan Doughlin (DB) and Fardin Gadjyev (LB).
“It’s a long way to the top. If you want to be the best, you must be  prepared to make sacrifices and do a lot more than only what is  required,” said coach Panos.
Important player departures:
Eric Richards – DB Nick Djurdevic – LB Alex Malone – RB Peter Hannon – Rec Winston Miles – OL
Impact players being recruited:
Malcolm Carter  – Rec Dayvon Love  – DB Malcolm Scantlebury – LB Will James – LB Clinton Leonard – FB Brett Stein – QB
New to the Wildcats:
Abdul Rasheed – FB/ LB Cardinal Licorish – RB
Breakout candidates on offense and defense (players who will improve dramatically this season, take their game to the next level):
Nikko Stamatis, Tristan Doughlin and Taj Mills from last year’s team, and newcomers Dayvon Love, Will James and Malcolm Carter should have serious impacts.

2011 Weaknesses
Injuries. In first playoff game the Wildcats played without key players – Winston Miles, Ben Risen, Jordan Richards, Alex Malone, Peter Hannon. The defense was also banged up.

Returning coaches, new coaches:
Head coach Frank Panos, defensive coordinator Niamoo D’Quarshi and RB  coach Mike Krsul return from last year.
New to the staff is Windsor  native Rick Beer (receivers), Guelph QB Luke Nangle (QB’s), Metro  Alumnus Danny Speight (DB’s), Andre Pokhodun moves up from JV (LB’s) and  Dan Shallow who once played for coach Panos will coach the DL.
