OVFL: Ravens & Myers Riders advance to Varsity Championship

The Essex Ravens and Ottawa Myers Riders will battle for the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) Varsity Championship in Waterloo this upcoming weekend.

Saturday’s contest will be a rematch of the 2014 Championship where the Myers Riders edged out the Ravens 25-24.

On Saturday night in the Adam Conference Final, the Ravens earned their ticket by defeating the London Jr. Mustangs 21-17.

Meanwhile, the Myers Riders cruised to a 48-21 win over Kingston Grenadiers.

ESSEX RAVENS 21, LONDON JR MUSTANGS 17:

At Windsor’s University of Windsor Alumni Stadium on Saturday night, Jacob Savoni tallied two majors and rushed for 97 yards on 12 carries as the Essex Ravens got by the visiting London Jr Mustangs 21-17 in the Adam Conference Final.

Alex Bornais scored a touchdown and racked up 67 yards on four receptions.  Braden Braccio rushed for 57 yards on 14 carries while Nick Langley has a 30 yard reception.

Anthony Bontorin completed seven passes in 15 attempts for 134 passing yards, 13 rushing yards on six carries and a passing touchdown in the win.  Dante Brown added three PAT’s.

On defence, Matthew Marentette registered nine solo and six assisted tackles for the Ravens.  Pren Duhanaj added seven solo and five assisted tackles.  Brown chipped in with six solo and three assisted tackles.  Daniel Metcafe recorded a solo sack as well as five solo and six assisted tackles.

Erik Erickson racked up five solo and six tackles.  Lowhya Lako recorded two solo sacks, five solo and two assisted tackles for the Ravens.

As for the Jr. Mustangs, Cole Kussmann tallied a major and rushed for 212 yards on 29 carries.

Noah Olynyk amassed 101 yards on seven receptions while Brentyne AndersonBrown rushed for 35 yards on seven carries.  Mark Devlin racked up 50 yards on three receptions in the loss.

#CFC100 pivot Tristan Arndt completed 12 passes in 21 attempts for 165 passing yards for the Jr. Mustangs.  Neil Garrity added a 24 yard field goal and was successful on two conversion attempts.

Cameron Bailey led the Jr. Mustangs defence as he recorded three solo sacks, an assisted and three solo tackles. Jacob Gold registered an assisted and five solo tackles in the loss.

Ottawa Myers Riders 2015 Wettges Conference

OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS 48, KINGSTON GRENADIERS 21:

On Saturday afternoon at Beckwith Sports Park, #CFCOPC Offensive MVP Jacob Spinella completed 28 passes in 38 attempts for 350 yards and six passing touchdowns as the Ottawa Myers Riders claimed the Wettges Conference title with a 48-21 win over Kingston Grenadiers.

Eddy Centaus tallied two majors and amassed 137 yards on seven receptions.  #CFCOPC Varsity MVP Phil Iloki scored two touchdowns and racked up 125 yards on 10 receptions for the Myers Riders. Jesse Skukas had 39 yards on four receptions.

Jacob Spinella 2

Carter Matheson scored three touchdowns and had 193 yards on 12 receptions for the Grenadiers.  Jeremy Pendergast racked up 78 yards on seven receptions while Nikolas Daniele added 37 yards on four receptions in the loss.  Additionally, Harry Robinson rushed for 71 yards on 15 carries.

Dylan Fisher 2

Grenadiers’ pivot Dylan Fisher completed 23 yards on 41 attempts for 308 yards and three passing touchdowns. Mike Bashall added three PAT’s.

Lance Cellini led the defence as he recorded a solo tackle as well as five solo and four assisted tackles.  Moreover, Spencer Griffin registered two solo and 10 assisted tackled in the loss.
