OVFL Recap: JV Grenadiers have proven again they are a top contender

After a two week break from Ontario Varsity League Football action for the Canada Day long weekend, the Limestone District Grenadiers got back in the game and didn’t hold anything back.  Head coach Mark Magee, the coaching staff and the entire Grenadiers lineup have proven once again why they are the top contender in the OVFL.  After six games they have yet to be defeated.  They currently hold first place with a 6-0 record with 251-points-for and 105-points-against.

The Grenadiers have 12-points total and are tied for first place with the Pickering Dolphins and Mississauga Warriors.

On Saturday, July 7, 2012 the Limestone District Grenadiers hosted the Oshawa Hawkeyes in game seven of the Ontario Varsity Football League junior division.  The Grenadiers upset the Hawkeyes 58-6 on home field in front of a sold out crowd.

Having a solid practice schedule is what head coach Magee believes has gotten his team to where they are today.

“As a coach you always stress the need to work hard in practice and get better [as a team],” stated Coach Magee.
“I think all of our players are hearing that message and it is paying off.”

After the Grenadiers huge success on Saturday the Grenadiers offense have accumulated over 1500-passing-yards and 1100-rushing-yards.  Quarterback Chase Peck is currently ranked 5th in the OVFL having 61-for-1067-yards, his longest completion being 90-yards.

“Our defense has played well all year and we will need that as we move forward in the season,” stated Coach Magee.

The Grenadiers defensive line is just shy of two hundred tackles and over twenty sacks after Saturday’s matchup.  Defensive back Farhan Imtiaz leads the team with 76 total points; having 14 tackles and 10 assists, 5 batted balls, 2 fumble recoveries and 6 interceptions for 21-yards.

Overall the Grenadiers have six different players in the season top-ten list throughout the various phases of the game.
Magee couldn’t be more ecstatic over the season his boys have been having.  All around they junior Grenadiers are having a tremendous season.  The coaching staff is continuously building on their success so they can move forward and be the best team they can be.

“Being 6-0 is great and the players deserve it because they have worked extremely hard,” stated Coach Magee.

In week eight the Grenadiers will travel to Toronto to go head-to-head with current fifth place team Toronto Thunder at Birchmount Stadium.  Game time is set for Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 5:00pm.  The senior varsity Grenadiers will also be in Toronto and play at 2:00pm against the second place Toronto Thunder.
