Kickoff is only days away!
With the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) set to begin soon, CanadaFootballChat.com (CFC) is previewing some of the teams that will be competing this season.
In thisΒ instalment, CFC reporter Chris Zorbas previews the varsity Oshawa Hawkeyes.
On Saturday, May 21st The Oshawa Hawkeyes will take the field for the first time since a playoff loss last year ended their season. The varsity team is a relatively young one, mostly made up of junior varsity players who have now graduated into the varsity level.
This season, as always will include players from all different high schools putting aside their rivalries and working to win the championship.
This year’s team has an atmosphere of hard work, and good coaching. The organization and efficiency of the team makes it clear that this is a team that would not be satisfied with just making the playoffs, but winning deep into them. Β This year’s varsity Hawkeyes will be looking to make one thing abundantly clear come week one, they are a team that has realistic championship aspirations.
The Hawkeyes will get a chance to prove themselves soon, as the season kicks off on May 21st with the Hawkeyes traveling to York University to take on the Metro Toronto Wildcats, then face a stiff test when they return home to host the proven Toronto Thunder. Oshawa then hosts Kingston before going on a three week road trip to York and then the powerhouse Myers Riders in Ottawa before traveling to the Β Sault to face the Sabercats. Oshawa will close the season at home by facing the Metro Toronto Wildcats again before the season finale against GTA rival the Durham West Dolphins.
