Panthers, St. Thomas More football alumnist Sagodi passes away too young

The Hamilton amateur football community and St. Thomas More Catholic High School are in mourning from the passing of Matthew Sagodi.

Nineteen year-old Matthew Sagodi, a 6-foot-7, 320-pound product of Hamilton minor and high school football, passed away Tuesday evening.  Sagodi played 12 seasons with the Hamilton Wentworth Panthers and five seasons with the St. Thomas More Knights.  He died after battling a degenerative heart condition over the past seven months.

Sagodi was taken to Hamilton General a week ago Friday before being transferred to Toronto General Hospital early the next morning. That is where he passed away.

A funeral service for Sagodi will take place Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Hamilton.
