Peewee Cougars never gave up

The Peewee Cougars never gave up their gutsy come back attempt in their Day-Of-Champs loss to the Waterloo Predators, 42-35. Β The Cougars faced a stifling run defence all game and struggled to get going after a tough injury to running back Oliver Shepherd early in the 2ndΒ quarter.Β  An incredible offensive performance from star wide receiver Caleb Roberts accounted for all 5 of the Cougars touchdowns.Β  Roberts amassed a total of 297 all purpose yards, scoring on a kick off return, a rushing attempt, and 3 receptions from QB Sawyer Emmott.Β  The offensive line and receivers demonstrated their improved blocking ability throughout the game, wearing down the Predator’s defense late in the game.

The Cougar defense was gashed early in the game against the punishing run offense of the Predators but they pulled together as a unit and made some key stops in the 2ndΒ half.Β  Strong performances by Reed Larson & Max McCracken with 8 tackles & 1 sack each, Carter Dodman 7 tackles & Taner Perreault-Thierren with 6 tackles.Β  Jacob Pretty added 3 tackles and a momentum changing strip & fumble recovery.Β  Special teams had our best performance of the season holding the Predators to just 28 yards off of 6 kick-off returns.Β  Drew Heidt also recovered a perfectly placed onside kick by Emmott, leading to our final touchdown.

The 2018 Peewee Cougars fought for every yard gained and tackle made right from the first practice until the final horn sounded.Β  They did so with respect for their team, their opposition, themselves and the sport of football.Β  The coaches could not be any more proud of the growth this young team exemplified and we move forward with high hopes for future years.

A sincere thank you to all the players, parents/families, coaches and team support personnel for all your hard work and dedication throughout the season.Β  Thank you to the Cougars Association as well for your continued support and all the work you do behind the scenes; and to the many sponsors who help make this possible.Β  Each and every person involved plays a significant role in the success of the program and allows the players the opportunity to not only improve their skills on the field, but also to take away many life lessons and friendships for their future.
