Playoff berth on the line

OVFL:  Varsity Eagles win tight battle against Bulldogs.

With the playoffs on the line, the Varsity Etobicoke Eagles ventured up to Brampton to face the Bulldogs. Needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Eagles knew they would need to play their best football of the season to walk away with the win.

After a long 60 minutes, the Eagles were able to sneak away with a very close 22-20 win over the Bulldogs.

The Eagles offense was pitted against a strong Bulldogs defense but in the end they were able to put enough points on the board to stay alive in their hunt for the playoffs.

Running back Neko Hamilton led the way this weekend as he excelled on the ground for Etobicoke. He helped the team control the clock all while putting points up. On 15 carries, Neko was able to put up 125 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, which clinched the Eagles win.

“We were able to control the clock and the pace of the game this week,” said Eagles Head Coach Chivase Bryan.  “Holding on to the ball for the majority of the game, kept the opposing offense off the field and out of the end zone.”

“Our offense line anchored by Luke Borsella had their best game so far considering they were going up against a nine man box the whole game.”

The Eagles defense were equally effective as the unit was able to hold off the feisty Bulldogs.

The standout player this week on defense was Danny Lamoureux. With 11 solo tackles and 7 assisted, Danny led the team and was a true leader on the team. DJ Panos made his presence known this week and was a true force.

“His presence alone allowed our defense to play well and allowed the other players to make the plays that they did,” said Chivase.

This upcoming week, the Eagles are up against a tough Mississauga Warriors team while fighting for a playoff berth.

“We have to prepare well in order to put up a good performance against one of the league’s elite teams,” said Chivase.

Chivase is confident that with a weeks’ worth of preparation, the Eagles have a chance against one of the best teams in the OVFL
