Playoff success

OFC:  Varsity and Junior Varsity Wolverines grab first round playoff victories

It was success on all cylinders for the Peterborough Wolverines.

Both the varsity and junior varsity Wolverines teams won their first round playoff matches in the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

In varsity action, the Wolverines got by the Toronto Jr. Argos 31-23 to punch their ticket to the Mike Ramsay Conference final.  Devon McCallum scored two majors while Alex Reid and Munashe Masawi each chipped in with a touchdown. Wolverines’ kicker Warren Reid was successful on four conversion attempts in addition to a 33 yard field goal attempt.

The Wolverines will now face their toughest challenge of the playoffs – the top ranked Huronia Stallions on Saturday August 3rd at Barrie Sports Complex.  Kickoff is 3:00pm.

Meanwhile, the junior varsity Wolverines thrashed the Jr.Argos 44-7 to advance to the semi-finals. Braden Frise was unstoppable as he scored three touchdowns.  Spencer Johnston, Matthew Rozema and Morgan McDonald each found the end zone once.  Kicker Matt Baron was successful on five conversion attempts and booted a 20 yard field goal in the victory.

The junior varsity team will battle North Halton Crimson Tide in the conference finals.  The game will be on Saturday August 3rd at 4pm at Kenner Collegiate Field.
