PRESS RELEASE: OUA announces football schedule for 2021 season

Burlington, Ont. – Ontario University Athletics (OUA) is pleased to announce the 2021 regular season football schedule, set to commence on September 18.

Key Dates
Training Camp Start | September 3, 2021
Regular Season Start | September 18, 2021
Regular Season End | October 30, 2021
Championship | November 20, 2021

The gridiron has gone without game action for nearly two years, but kicking off on September 18, OUA football makes a triumphant return to the field. Condensed from the usual eight-game schedule over the span of a nine-week regular season, the adjusted 2021 campaign will feature six games per school across a seven-week span.

Opening weekend will feature clashes between the Ottawa Gee-Gees and Toronto Varsity Blues, York Lions and Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, Queen’s Gaels and Carleton Ravens, as well as the Windsor Lancers and Waterloo Warriors. Meanwhile, the fifth and final matchup of the week sees a championship rematch in London. The McMaster Marauders will visit the Western Mustangs, mirroring the circumstances of the last OUA game played when the visiting Marauders took home the 29-15 victory to earn the 112th Yates Cup.

Another Yates Cup rematch is among the must-see matchups in Week 2, as the Mustangs and Gryphons converge in Guelph, while the Golden Hawks and Warriors get set to pen the latest chapter in the Battle of Waterloo on September 25.

Another of the conference’s best rivalries will follow suit in Week 3 when the Ottawa Gee-Gees and Carleton Ravens take the field on October 2 for the Panda Game, while the York Lions and Toronto Varsity Blues will grace the same gridiron on October 16 (Week 5).

Fans will not have to wait long to get a second serving of these storied rivalries; however, as all intra-city contests will happen not once, but twice this season, aligning with the conference’s efforts to reduce travel within the return-to-play plan. Each of these rematches will help close out the regular season return to the gridiron during the seventh and final week of play (October 28 to 30).
