RECAP: AndersonBrown in beast mode, Hurricanes & Knights to tangle in OFC JV Championship

This past weekend, the playoffs continued in both the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

In the OVFL, the Brampton Bulldogs advanced to the Adam Conference Final, where the team will face the London Jr Mustangs.Β  In the Wettges Conference Final, it will be the Battle of the Nation’s Capital as the Cumberland Panthers and Ottawa Myers Riders will battle it out for a berth in the League Championship.

Here is the schedule for the OVFL Junior Varsity Conference Finals:

As for the OFC, the Hamilton Hurricanes won the Doug Dittmer Conference Final.Β  The Hurricanes have advanced to the League Championship on Saturday August 9th, 2014 where the team will host the Clarington Knights at McMaster University’s Ron Joyce Stadium.Β  Kickoff is 3:00pm.

Here are results for this past weekend’s OVFL and OVC Junior Varsity Division playoff games.

ONTARIO VARSITY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (OVFL):

BRAMPTON BULLDOGS 48, CAMBRIDGE LIONS 33:

At Jacob Hespeler Field, Jevante Stanley scored two touchdowns and rushed for 295 yards on 25 carries as the Brampton Bulldogs advanced to the Adam Conference Final with a 48-33 victory over the Cambridge Lions.

Jamaal Nkrumah also tallied two majors and had 84 yards on three receptions for the Bulldogs.Β  Additionally, Malcolm Miller scored two touchdowns, including one on a kickoff return. Tyrell Richards added four PAT’s.

On defense, Hunter Brown recorded two solo sacks as well as an assisted and four solo tackles.Β  Christopher Spencer added six solo and five assisted tackles in the win.

As for the Lions, Devante Hudson tallied two majors and racked up 197 yards on three receptions.Β  Griffin Monaghan scored a touchdown and had 84 yards on six receptions. Pivot Jackson White completed 14 passes in 33 attempts for 361 yards and four passing touchdowns.Β  Nathan McLean added two field goals (42 and 27 yards) and three PAT’s.

Ben Drummond led the Lions defense with five solo and 11 assisted tackles.Β  Malex Cameron added two solo and four assisted tackles in the loss.

Cumberland Panthers JV Week 8

CUMBERLAND PANTHERS 52, YORK SIMCOE BUCS 12:

At Millennium Field, Pascal Roy LaPensee completed eight passes in 12 attempts for 248 yards and five passing touchdowns as the Cumberland Panthers cruised to a 52-12 win over the York Simcoe Bucs.

Baxter Balthazar (120 rushing yards on four carries), Dylan St. Pierre (173 yards on four receptions) and Jamal Mavinga (111 yards on six receptions) each scored a touchdown for the Panthers. Zachary Batal added a 15 yard field goal and seven PAT’s.

On defense, Matthew Byrne recorded a solo sack as well as registered four solo and four assisted tackles.Β  Nicholas Russo added three solo and nine assisted tackles in the win.

Richie Cole scored a touchdown on a 60 yard reception for the Bucs.

OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS 57, KINGSTON GRENADIERS 15:

At Minto Field, Jean-Paul Cimakinda tallied a major and rushed for 128 yards on 14 carries as the Ottawa Myers Riders advanced to the Wettges Conference Final with a 57-15 victory over the Kingston Grenadiers.

Jalla Lansanah also scored a touchdown and rushed for 125 yards on 10 carries. AJ Oickle also ran into the end zone for a score. Owen Clement added a 32 yard field goal and six PAT’s.

Maxym Lavallee led the Myers Riders defense as he caught an interception and converted it into a 40 yard touchdown.Β  He also added a solo and four assisted tackles.

As for the Grenadiers, pivot Brendan Steele completed 12 passes in 23 attempts for 164 yards and a passing touchdown in the loss.

Brentyne Anderson Brown

LONDON JR MUSTANGS 32, HAMILTON IRONMEN 29:

At Ron Joyce Stadium, Brentyne Anderson Brown scored four touchdowns and rushed for 264 yards on 31 carries as the London Jr Mustangs escaped with a 32-29 win over the Hamilton Ironmen.

Thomas Hawkins added a 17 yard field goal and three PAT’s in the win.Β  Mark Shelley led the defense as he recorded an assisted and two solo sacks.Β  Additionally, Shelley registered two solo and four assisted tackles for the Mustangs.

Isaiah Joseph led the Ironmen as he tallied three majors and rushed for 105 yards on 20 carries.Β  Pivot Alexander DiPietro completed 16 passes on 26 attempts for 229 yards and a passing touchdown.Β  David Benedetti was successful on four conversion attempts in the loss.

On defense, Kyle Chorazy caught an interception as well as registered six solo and three assisted tackles for the Ironmen.Β  Joe O’Brien added six solo and six assisted tackles.
