RECAP: Mixed results for Stallions’ squads

Varsity Stallions Improve to 2-0; JV and Bantams stumble

VARSITY

The Huronia Stallions Varsity team defeated the Oakville Titans 21-7 to improve to 2-0 on the season.  For the second straight week the Stallions struggled offensively committing multiple turnovers and stalling repeatedly on possessions in the first quarter leading to a 7-0 early deficit.  In the second quarter, the Stallions managed to move into Oakville territory and Kicker Jacob Tanguay took advantage with two successful field goal attempts.  Oakville elected to receive the kickoff after the second attempt and Tanguay made them pay with a booming kick that resulted in a rouge and a 7-7 score at halftime.  On Oakville’s first possession of the second half, JV call up Kayden Peters announced that he was ready for prime time with a clutch 25 yard interception which he returned for a touchdown making the score 14-7 in the “you’ve gotta love sports” play of the game.  The Stallions rushing attack then wore down the Titans defence which resulted in Tailback Matt Howe reaching pay dirt for the Stallions first offensive touchdown of the season and the 21-7 victory.  Howe rushed for nearly 200 yards and was ably backed up by explosive rookie Geoanthony Vargas who busted off some impressive runs to kill the clock in the fourth quarter.   However, for the second straight game the Stallions were unable to effectively pass the football.  The Defence had another great game holding their opponent under 10 points for the second consecutive week.  Defensive Tackle Fraser Olson and Linebacker Derek Addy were the top defensive players.  The Stallions next game is this Saturday at 3 pm on the road against the unbeaten Peterborough Wolverines.
JUNIOR VARSITY

The Huronia Stallions Junior Varsity team suffered a 44-7 defeat by the Oakville Titans to fall to 1-1 on the season.  The lone offensive highlight was a Brendan Hrynczak to Cruz Boudary passing touchdown.  Zachary Kuhn had an excellent game with several punishing tackles on both special teams and defence as well as some nifty gains in the return game.  The Stallions next game is this Saturday at Noon against the 2-0 Wolverines of Peterborough.

 

BANTAM

The Huronia Stallions Bantam team fell to 1-1 on the season with a 34-20 loss to the Oakville Titans.  Tailback Bradlle Kitchikake followed his 6 touchdown performance in week one with an explosive first quarter.  Kitchikake opened the scoring with a touchdown run and responded to an Oakville score with an electric kickoff return touchdown on the Stallions next possession.  The Stallions did not capitalize on these early strikes because they simply could not stop the explosive Oakville offence.  The Titans had four touchdown plays of 50 yards or more on the day to stymy any chance of a Stallions victory.  Stallions Quarterback Nick DeJesus put forth an outstanding effort amassing 255 yards of total offence including a touchdown run despite tough weather conditions.  William McCulloch, Aden Alfieri and Brady Smith also had strong games for the Stallions offence.  Saaed Khan and Jean Paul Mazlymian were the top defenders.  The Stallions next game is this Friday at 8pm under the lights against the 2-0 Vaughn Rebels.
