The Ottawa Myers Riders are one game away from ultimate redemption.
This past weekend at Millennium Field, the Myers Riders won the Junior Varsity Wettges Conference Final 23-19 over the Cumberland Panthers.
Dilan Parry and Jean-Paul Cimankinda each scored touchdowns for the Myers Riders. Jalla Lansanah rushed for 129 yards on 20 carries.
Pivot Jacob Spinella completed 11 passes in 23 attempts for 153 yards and three passing touchdowns. Owen Clement added a 32 yard field goal and two PAT’s in the win.
On defense, Daniel Porter registered two solo and 11 assisted tackles for the Myers Riders. Donovan McLean added four solo and seven assisted tackles. Additionally, Danny Lukusa chipped in with four solo and five assisted tackles in the win. Noah Porter recorded a solo sack.
As for the Panthers, Jamal Malvinga tallied a major and amassed 242 yards on eight receptions . Baxter Balthazar tallied a major and rushed for 110 yards on 23 catches for the Panthers. Pivot Pascal Roy Lapensee completed 13 passes in 18 attempts for 295 yards and a passing touchdown. Zach Batal added two PAT’s.
Shubham Nayyar registered four solo and four assisted tackles for the Panthers defense. Moreover, Nicarlo Funai recorded two solo sacks as well as four solo and two assisted tackles. Joshua Earle had four solo and two assisted tackles in the loss.
With this victory, the Myers Riders advance to the OVFL Junior Varsity Championship. After last year’s disappointing loss at the hands of the Cambridge Lions, the Myers Riders will be looking to come out on top.
However, they will have to battle the London Jr Mustangs at Carleton University in Ottawa on Saturday August 16th. Kickoff is 3:00pm.
At Chingcousy Park, Brentyne AndersonBrown scored three touchdowns and rushed for 281 yards on 45 carries as the Mustangs got by the Brampton Bulldogs 37-33 in the Adam Conference Final.
Ben Schmidt completed nine passes in 11 attempts for 134 yards and two passing touchdowns. Thomas Hawkins was successful on four conversion attempts.
On the Mustangs defense, Tamurie Bringi caught two interceptions as well as registering four solo and an assisted tackle.
