RECAP OVFL Championships: Myers Riders, Mustangs grab titles

It’s a repeat for the Ottawa Riders Myers.

This past weekend, the varsity Myers Riders grabbed their second consecutive Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) Championship in a thrilling 25-24 win over the Essex Ravens.

Keenan Tanti scored two touchdowns and rushed for 77 yards on 12 carries.  Jahdel Ferron tallied a major while Phil Iloki had 70 yards on five receptions.  Jaegar Prot racked up 68 yards on five receptions for the Myers Riders.

Pivot Matthew Duffy completed 18 passes in 32 attempts for 228 passing yards.  Connor Ayre added three PAT’s.

On defense, Tremayne Rockburn and Pankow each caught an interception.  Jordan Gorgichuk registered nine solo tackles and an assisted tackle in the win.  Brad Herbst added five solo and four assisted tackles.

LDN Jr Mustangs 2014 OVFL JV Champions

The London Jr Mustangs are the junior varsity Champions after cruising to a 49-27 victory over the Myers Riders.

Brentyne AndersonBrown scored five touchdowns and rushed for 364 yards on 33 carries to lead the Mustangs.  Daniel Valente caught an interception and ran it into the end zone for a 61 yard touchdown score.  Thomas Hawkins was successful on seven conversion attempts.

Ben Schmidt completed 11 passes in 17 attempts for 148 passing yards and two touchdowns in the win.

Mark Shelley registered seven solo and three assisted tackles to lead the Mustangs defense.  Nicholas Sarre added five solo and three assisted tackles.

As for the Myers Riders, Dilan Perry tallied two majors and racked up 112 yards on two receptions.  Jean-Paul Cimankinda scored a touchdown and rushed for 113 yards on 11 carries.

Jacob Spinella completed seven passes in 18 attempts for 153 yards and two passing touchdowns.

Donovan McLean scored a touchdown, recorded a solo sack as well as registered three solo and eight assisted tackles in the loss.  Andrew Beatty added eight solo and eight assisted tackles for the Myers Riders. Maxym Lavallee racked up seven solo and six assisted tackles.  Thomas Partridge recorded a solo sack.
