RECAP: Voyageurs hold off Eagles, Pinehouse capitalize on early turnovers

Last week the Northern Saskatchewan Football League kicked off with two games in the Western Division. On Wednesday, September 3 the hometown Beauval Voyageurs held off the Buffalo Narrows Eagles by a score of 44-39. That game was back and forth to the very end with Brenden Hensen leading the home team with six touchdowns in the game.  Joseph Daley and Tkay Pederson each had three touchdowns in a losing cause.

On Thursday, the Laker Bowl featuring the hometown Pinehouse Lakers took on the La Loche Lakers. Pinehouse took advantage of early turnovers with Johnny Tinker scoring six touchdowns and his younger brother Drey Tinker adding two touchdowns himself in the 58-7 victory. Following this game the La Loche team had a vehicle accident  that result in injuries to six players in one of the busses, including a serious injury to #15 Dianna Janvier. Our thoughts and prayers are with her as she remains in hospital.

In the coming week, in the western division,  the scheduled game on Monday, featuring Green lake hosting La Loche has been postponed as a result of the bus accident. On Tuesday, September 9,  Pinehouse travels to Beauval to take on the Voyageurs. The eastern division kicks off play on Wednesday  September 10 at the inaugural football game at the Lac la Ronge Indian Band, where the Senator Myles Venne Huskies are taking on the Cumberland House Islanders. Last season, the Islanders were unbeaten in the regular season and hope to extend this streak despite being without injured start Brandon Fiddler. The final game of the week on Thursday September 11, will feature Sandy Bay taking on the travelling Creighton Kodiaks who  are playing their first ever football game.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
