Richards resigns as SFU Athletics Director

BURNABY, BC – Simon Fraser University Associate Vice-President, Students, Dr. Tim Rahilly, announced today thatΒ Dr. Milton Richards has resigned as Senior Director of Athletics and Recreation after almost four years leading Clan athletics.

Richards had served as Athletics Director at Simon Fraser University since November 1, 2011 and was instrumental in leading the university into NCAA. Simon Fraser is the only school in Canada competing in NCAA.

“Milt played an integral role in helping SFU achieve its goal of full membership in NCAA Division II as the only international university competing in the NCAA,” said Dr. Rahilly. “His leadership has helped Clan athletes and teams achieve early success in NCAA and we thank him for all of his hard work.”

Richards will continue to lead the department in his current position until July 2.

“I’m proud of what we have been able to accomplish over my time at SFU and I feel like the university is set up for future success,” said Richards, who plans to return to his home and wife, Amy Bublak, in California.

Simon Fraser will conduct an international search to find its next Director of Athletics and Recreation, who is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the SFU Athletics Department, providing leadership and direction for 17 NCAA Division II sports and almost 400 student athletes.
