Roberts vital to Lions success

James Roberts is consistently showing us his ability to control and manage the game with a lethal combination of skill and football intelligence.

Roberts has begun the 2014 season with a bang, imposing is will on opposing defenses, protecting the football and putting up points.

Through four games so far this season, Roberts has turned the ball over only once, while throwing for 9 touchdown passes, 1,061 total passing yards and a total QB Rating of 171.9.

Long story short, Roberts has been terrorizing defenses, while playing as if he were possessed.

What have been the keys to his success?

The Lions running game, led by Running Back, Alex Salytchev, has certainly been successful, demanding attention and providing Roberts the opportunity to find his guys down field.

However, this type of success is not merely the result of a lack of respect to the passing game on the part of opposing defense. Roberts has found a way to consistently place passes in spots where his receivers are going to be the only men with the chance to reel it in.

One of the most impressive traits I have seen in Roberts to this point in the season, is his ability to read defenses and complete clutch passes, while converting third downs. Roberts currently leads the league in first downs with 52, an important statistic.

Through his capability to move the chains and lengthen the drive, Roberts is showing us his ability to manage the game and the clock, while executing the plays properly and consistently.

All in all, it is a very exciting time to be at Jacob Hespeler Field to watch the show these Lions are putting on for its fans. Led by Head Coach, Anthony Maggiacomo, the arm of James Roberts and one of the top defenses in the league, the Cambridge Lions have an opportunity to do some serious damage this season.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
