SHAW CFL Top Performers JUNE

TORONTO — Trevor Harris, Brandon Banks, and Sean Thomas Erlington were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for June of the CFL’s 2019 season. The Performers of the Month for June includes all appearances from Week 1 to Week 3.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

QB | TREVOR HARRIS | EDMONTON ESKIMOS

Trevor Harris hasn’t missed a beat despite new surroundings in Edmonton.

Harris has led the green and gold to a 2-1 record and has been as efficient as ever. The Waldo, Ohio, native currently leads the league in passing with 1,086 yards, and is tied with six touchdown passes, while completing nearly 72% of his passes.

During Week 1, Harris was named a Shaw Top Performer following a 447-yard and three touchdown effort against the Montreal Alouettes. He was just shy of 300+ yards in Week 2 against the visiting BC Lions (294), before once again eclipsing the mark with a 345-yard performance in Week 3 in Winnipeg.

His favourite target thus far has been Greg Ellingson who leads the league in receptions and sits second in yards, while CJ Gable tops the CFL in rushing.

Despite only having three career rushing touchdowns prior to the season, Harris added two more to open the year.

REC | BRANDON BANKS | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Tiger-Cats receiver Brandon Banks started the year strong by continuing the great with which he ended the 2018 campaign.

Through June, Hamilton leads the East Division with a 3-0 record thanks to a torrid offence featuring Banks. The Kansas State alum leads the league with 334 receiving yards and sits second with 20 receptions.

During the three game stretch, Banks has eclipsed the 100+ yard mark on two occasions – a 152-yard on seven reception performance in Week 3 versus Montreal, and a 105-yard showing in Week 2 versus Toronto.

Banks has also had a terrific start on special teams. He returned a missed field-goal 113 yards against the Argonauts in Week 2 and through three games, Banks has accumulated 513 all-purpose yards.

RB | SEAN THOMAS ERLINGTON | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

In the opening month of the season, Sean Thomas Erlington has emerged as another potent offensive threat for the undefeated Tiger-Cats.

The Montreal native and eighth-round pick in the 2017 draft has recorded 193 receiving yards on 11 receptions, while adding 224 rushing yards to total 417 combined yards – fourth most in the CFL.

Thomas Erlington’s 165 all-purpose yards in Week 2 helped Hamilton spoil the Toronto Argonauts’ home opener 64-14, and garnered him a nod as a Shaw CFL Top Performer.

He followed that performance with 168 all-purpose yards in Week 3 as the Tiger-Cats hosted the Alouettes.

The former Montreal Carabin has averaged 7.0 yards per carry this season.

TORONTO — Cody Fajardo, Eric Rogers and Ja’Gared Davis were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 3 of the CFL’s 2019 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

QB | CODY FAJARDO | SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS

In the Roughriders’ home opener on Canada Day, Cody Fajardo brought the fireworks. In his second career start, he led the team to its first victory of the season – a 32-7 win over the Argonauts.

The Nevada product completed 24-of-31 passes (77.4%) for a career-high 430 yards and three total touchdowns (2 passing,1 rushing) against his former team.

At the end of the first quarter, Fajardo connected with Kyran Moore for a 98-yard touchdown – the longest Roughriders touchdown reception since 2002.

In the second, he found Cory Watson who willed his way into the endzone from five yards out for his second passing major of the game. He called his number later in the quarter to cap off the drive by sneaking in for a one-yard score.

This season, the Brea, Calif., native has completed 73.2% of his passes while accumulating 856 yards with seven total touchdowns (4 passing, 3 rushing) and no interceptions.

REC | ERIC ROGERS | CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Eric Rogers played a pivotal part in the Stampeders’ thrilling comeback victory on Saturday against the BC Lions, 36-32 at McMahon Stadium.

Rogers recorded nine receptions for 100 yards and a trio of touchdowns, including the game-winning major.

The 6’3” receiver out of Glendora, Calif., caught his first touchdown in the second quarter from Bo Levi Mitchell from three-yards out. His second came in the fourth when Mitchell pump-faked and found Rogers over the middle for the 42-yard score. His final touchdown reception came with 31 seconds remaining in the game – after Rogers recovered an offside kick, Nick Arbuckle found the Cal Lutheran alum in the back of the endzone to complete the comeback.

The game marked Rogers’s 8th 100+ yard effort in the CFL. This season, Rogers has tallied 13 receptions for 143 yards and three touchdowns.

DL | JA’GARED DAVIS | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Ja’Gared Davis played a big role in a Tiger-Cats’ defence which only allowed 10 points en route to 41-10 win over Montreal at Tim Hortons Field.

The former Southern Methodist Mustang tied a career-high with three sacks in a single-game while adding seven defensive tackles, a tackle for a loss and for good measure, a pass knockdown.

The defensive lineman’s first sack came in the opening quarter when he brought down Vernon Adams Jr. for a 12-yard loss. His other two came in the fourth: another against Adams Jr. for a five-yard loss, and one on Matthew Shiltz which sent the Alouettes back three yards. Each of his sacks resulted in Montreal punting the ball.

Through three games, Davis has recorded defensive 14 tackles and three sacks.
