OVFL: Ā Myers Riders defeat Spears to take both Varsity and Bantam titles, lose JV final to Lions

The Ottawa Myers Riders football organization have capped off a successful 2013 Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) campaign by winning two of three championship titles this past weekend at Kiwanis Field in Niagara.

The varsity Myers Riders team dashed the hopes of the host team this past Saturday, thumping the Niagara Spears 42-20 for the league championship. The victors jumped out to an early 14-0 in the game after the team recovered a fumble and ran it into the end zone for a touchdown score.

Danny Lukusa led the way defensively for the Myers Riders while JP Cimankinda and Hayden Tripp led the offensive unit in the championship win.

The Myers Riders organization won another league championship title as the bantam team crushed the Spears 34-7. As with the varsity team, the bantam Myers Riders leaped out into a 14-0 lead and was never really challenged throughout the entire game en route to the title.

However, the junior varsity team did not fare as well on Saturday.Ā  The Cambridge Lions took the championship title, cruising by the Myers Riders 58-13.

Running back Alex Salytchev led the Lions offensive unit as he scored four touchdowns and amassed 209 rushing yards in the victory.Ā  Receiver George Monaghan IV had 71 yard touchdown reception while he racked up 101 receiving yards on three catches. Brandon Metz, Kaden Jespersen and Isaac Andrade also tallied majors for the Lions.

Defensively, Mitch Weller led the way as he registered 14 tackles and three batted balls.

For the Myers Riders, Jordan Duprey and Jalla Lansanah scored touchdowns in a losing cause.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
