OVFL: JV Cambridge Lions come up big against Cowboys

The JV Cambridge Lions knocked off the Halton Cowboys in commanding fashion with a final score of 56-0.

With the victory, the Lions stay undefeated at 3-0.

The Lions continued to showcase their depth as a team, while never missing a beat.

β€œWe rolled the bodies through all game. A lot of guys made big plays, which we needed them to and when the opportunity came those players are ready and confident,” said Head Coach Gary Skalos.

On offense the Lions took to the air more then usual.

β€œWe took advantage of the situation and ended up throwing the ball 21 times and he [Mitch] answered,” said Skalos

Leading the Lions, through the air was quarter back Mitch Weiler, with 276 yards through the air and a staggering 4 touchdowns. Also Mitch added 49 yards rushing.

β€œStarting to show now what he can do, showing he is a triple threat,” said Skalos on Weiler.

On the ground, the Lions leading rusher was Alex Salytchev with 101 yards and a touchdown on just 2 carries.

As a defense unit, the Lions had a strong performance. One of the most notable performances came from outside linebacker Tyden Kelly. He had a combined 20 tackles, to go with a sack and forced fumbled.

β€œOver and above, played to his level, the way he is supposed to. He was everywhere; it was him all night long,” noted Skalos.

Another notable performance came from defensive back James Kalte. He had an interception on the day that went for 56 yards.

Additionally, another strong performance came from kicker Nathan Mclean. He was perfect on the day going 8 for 8 on PAT’s on the day.

Overall, the Lions had a great game but Gary Skalos knows there is always something to improve.

β€œWe had a significant amount of penalties (against Halton.) We will address this week; and maintain composure,” says Skalos.

Looking to next week the Lions will be taking on the Brampton Bulldogs. This is gearing up to be great contest.

β€œPretty confident going forth, Brampton is a tough opponent, their big, strong, fast; were excited. We’ve played Brampton now for a dozen years, its going to become one of those games where you have to fight for every inch,” said Skalos.

Kick off is scheduled for June 15 at 4pm.
