Snyder wins Raven coaching debut

In his debut as interim head coach of the Essex Ravens, Coach Steve Snyder led the Ravens to a resounding 52-0 thrashing over the Sault Ste Marie Sabercats. Β With Glen Mills stepping down as head coach on a temporary basis, Steve Snyder stepped into the mix, and the Ravens did not miss a single beat.

It looked as though the Sabercats were going to challenge the Ravens early on, but a roughing the passer penalty on the Sault defense negated an interception return for a touchdown. From there the Ravens took over.

Eli Fera would start the scoring barrage with a short touchdown run to give the Ravens an early 7-0 lead. With a couple of minutes remaining in the first quarter, Cody McCann scored on a 5 yard rush to increase the lead to 14-0 Essex , a lead that they would hold until the end of the first quarter.

Matthew Suhail would increase the Ravens lead to 17-0 with a 27 yard field goal. Soon after that Essex defensive back Tarik Bonas would intercept a pass to give the ball back to the Ravens. On the next play, Ravens quarterback Brandon Reaume was not able to control a high snap and the Sabercats recovered the ball at the Essex 3 yard line, however Β an offside’s penalty against the Sabercats would negate the turnover, and give the ball right back to Essex.Β  With the first half almost over, Brandon Reaume would connect with Matteo Del Brocco on a 18 yard touchdown pass and then again with Del Brocco on a 55 yard touchdown pass to give the Ravens a commanding 31-0 half time lead.

The third quarter was much of the same for the Ravens. Tarik Bonas would intercept his second pass of the day setting up a 10 yard touchdown pass from Reaume to wide receiver Martez Lambert to increase the lead to 38-0 Essex.

Early in the fourth, Reaume would connect with runningback Mikey Filipic on a short screen pass, Filipic would go on to break multiple tackles and score from 24 yards out increasing the lead to 45-0. Ravens runningback Khaliel James would close out the scoring with an 8 yard scamper to give the Ravens a 52-0 lead.

Defensively the Ravens stymied the Sabercats all day, allowing them to cross midfield once, and allowing only three first downs.

Next up for the Essex Ravens will be a game against their biggest rival, the Mississauga Warriors on Saturday June 15 in Mississauga, kickoff is at 5 pm.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
