Stallions Get Swept in Cottage Cup Showdown Against Peterborough
Varsity
The Huronia Stallions Varsity Football team lost 24-9 to their rivals from Peterborough to fall to 3-1 on the season.Ā The Stallions had a stellar defensive effort in the game but could not generate enough offence to win a third straight road game after long trips to Sault St. Marie and North Bay.Ā The Stallions built a 9-3 lead at halftime highlighted by a 25 yard Zach Kuhn touchdown run.Ā Peterborough then took control in the third quarter with the Stallions unable to respond due to a crucial turnover on what appeared to be a promising drive.Ā Zach Willems had an excellent game with several sacks and key tackles in his first game back from injury.Ā Justin De Faria also played well on both defence and special teams with several impressive tackles.Ā Kuhn was the leading offensive player with 9 carries for 64 yards and the aforementioned touchdown.Ā The Stallions next game is this Saturday at 5 pm against the North Halton Crimson Tide at the Barrie Sports Complex in Midhurst.
Junior Varsity
The Huronia Stallions Junior Varsity team fell to 2-2 on the season with a 44-17 loss to the Peterborough Wolverines.Ā The Stallions had a promising start to the game with an opening drive field goal by Will McCulloch to take a 3-0 lead.Ā Peterborough then seized the momentum with a quick touchdown strike after the Stallions took a costly 15 yard penalty.Ā The Stallions kept the game close until the mid-point of the second quarter when miscues on offence and special teams led to more Peterborough touchdowns.Ā This included a blocked punt for a touchdown and an interception for a touchdown.Ā Peterborough also blocked a second punt in the game.Ā After a delay due to lightning, Stallions defensive back Julian Di Sabatino provided one more highlight in an otherwise tough day when he took his second interception of the day for a touchdown.Ā Wide Receiver Liam Harrison had several key receptions to lead the offence.Ā On defence, Linebackers Gavin Wallin and Clayton Mrazek also had strong games.Ā The Stallions have another tough matchup this week when they will host the Sault St. Marie Sabrecats this Saturday at 1 pm at the Barrie Sports Complex in Midhurst.Ā The Stallions will look to improve on a 48-8 loss to the Sabrecats in week two.
BANTAM
The Huronia Stallions Bantam team fell to 2-1 on the season after suffering a 49-6 loss to the Peterborough Wolverines.Ā The Stallions next game is this Sunday at 1 pm at the Barrie Sports Complex in Midhurst against the 4-0 Chatham-Kent Cougars.
